***I FOUND OUT WHY PROJECTS ARE CRASHING???***
OLD
About the the “Oh No!!!” blue crash message that appears while loading projects - I don't think it's just a random bug that appears randomly and can be fixed with a simple reload… It is appearing only when loading up certain projects and only those projects, and is occurring all the time- it never lets up. My latest project has been acting up this way all the time. The only way I can get inside the project is by clicking “See Inside” and then reloading, and even this doesn't always work.
I think there is some asset inside the project that is causing the crashing. It might be a bitmap+vector asset or a robot sound effect asset.
Hopefully you can use some of this given information to fix this bug, or if you can track down the type of asset and make a PSA telling users what kind of assets to avoid using to prevent crashes until the related bugs have been patched.
Thanks

Yes, I've realised this as well. There are a few projects of mine where this never used to happen, and then I change one thing and it does the “Oh No!” crash screen. I'm trying to figure out what it could be in the projects that make it do that…

NEW: I think I actually just found the culprit!!!
It's the sound effects in the sound editor.
1. On my latest shared project, I used a lot of ‘robot’ and ‘slow down’ sound effects. Before I put them in the project, it worked fine. Then I added them in and it started to crash, and now it crashes all the time, but I didn't think that the sound effects were the cause.
2. I am working on a project right now and I wanted a sound effect to last longer, so I used the slow down effect. Then I reloaded the project and it crashed!! (Once again, before I used the sound, it was working fine) Then I went inside the project and then reloaded it to cancel the crash (doesn't always work) and deleted the sound effect I slowed down. I tried reloading it again and it still crashed. Clearly the sound effect corrupted the project in some way, as even without the corrupted sound track it was crashing.
3.I created a brand new project and imported all the assets from the original project into the new one, this time leaving the related sound tracks out all together. And now the project loads 100% without crashing! With this information I can confidently say that the sound effects in the sound editor are the culprit of users' projects being corrupted, they should not be used for the time being, and they need to be fixed.
So, if you have a project that is crashing constantly, you need to delete all the sounds that you used effects on, and then put all the sprites into your backpack and put them into a brand new project.

I completely agree with you, but I think there's a little more to the story, as in my newest project I have done sound effects on very short sounds, and it works fine. Have you contacted the Scratch Team yet?

The same thing happened to me, but I only uploaded a project from 2.0 into 3.0. My project didn't have sound effects, so it may be something else as well.

Yes- I used some sound effects in my Peach's castle project which was completely made in 3.0- and it's working fine. Maybe it crashes only for audio clips over 10 seconds, because I'm very sure that the sound effects have a major effect on the crashes, because I was just able to fix 2 crashing projects by removing the sound effects entirely.

My new project is crashing again.
No way. I didn't use any sound effects
Scratch…this crashing bug needs to be fixed ASAP.

Alright- I know the last state the project was in before it started crashing, so I imported those assets into a new project and it works.
What I will do is add assets one at a time and keep reloading until I find the point where it crashes- that way I'll know what's causing it
NEW REPORT below
So, the original project was crashing, and I duplicated all the assets I knew were Ok into a new project. The original project was still crashing. Then I tried removing a costume that I used the erase tool on, tried reloading, and THE ORIGINAL PROJECT STOPPED CRASHING
Additional suspect: The erase tool in vector

Haha thank you for reporting all of these - this is so awesome!
We're in the progress of working on these bugs - we had some awareness that sound effects combined with longer/larger sound files were creating “blue screen of death.” The eraser tool might be a new culprit I haven't heard of. I'm not sure where we are with fixing this, although we have made a few fixes already. Will update the bugs + glitches post with any new findings. Thanks for your thorough and methodical reporting

Thank you! I will add more updates to this post if I collect any more information

About that erase costume- it was the one and only costume I used erase on in that project, but I think the fact that the original project was crashing and then it was fixed upon removing just that one costume is pretty significant!
(The costume was meant to be a spotlight, so it started out completely black and then I erased a large portion of it to make the spotlight, and then used ghost effect. To safely recreate it I just kept the black box but instead of erasing I just edited the vector points so there was a huge opening in the box)

New Report
In my latest project I wanted to include the sound of sleigh bells as background music. I searched on the website for a sleigh bell sound track, and found a project with a simple sleigh bell sound in the background https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/38719396/. It was a project from 2014. The sound was over 700 seconds long with most of it being empty space, so I decided to trim out the empty space.
I borrowed it and put it in my project, and immediately after I put it in I got comments saying the project was crashing. So I went inside and removed the sleigh bells sound from the sound list and it stopped crashing.
End of report

It sure is fancy seeing you here lol
I'm gonna try experimenting a bit to see what exactly might be causing the crashes.

FAJTV was right about the sound effects, but it's from more than that. I've had it happen in multiple projects. This one has been fixed, but it used to also happen after long sounds were put in. It's currently happening to a project of mine for reasons I can't explain. So I guess the ST might have to look into the base scripting and see what else seems to be the problem.

The project crashes when I try to upload a background from the photo album on my ipad (3rd gen)
It won't load any page when directed from the Google CS first website.
When I create a new project and click on the categories of code (for example Events), it scrolls to the bottom of the event blocks, not the top. And it will not allow me to scroll back up.

It isnt the sound effects because in one of my projects, there are no sound effects except for the music and it isn't edited in anyway lol
