Hytale Discussion & Speculation

New blog post! This latest blog post shows off some of the wildlife you'll encounter in Zone 1 of Hytale. Some of these creatures are just adorable, and some of them are honestly gorgeous. The post goes into a little bit about each creature's behavior as well as showing off a few videos of creature animations.

They also promise future info about Hytale creatures in other zones, so be on the look out for that!

Nice bear model, I'm obviously going to steal some inspiration from Hytale.

You know what day it is: new Hytale blog post day! The latest Hytale blog post goes over the particulars of building with blocks in Hytale. Of note: block texture variations, vertical slabs and pillars, roof blocks, and furniture The post also gives some examples of great builds by the Hytale team. Be sure to read to the end of the post for the more fancy, exciting examples.

Nice, still though, better graphics would look better though.

I'm interested to learn more about the different plant life we'll see in Hytale, particularly the trees. In the latest blog post, they show a build with some pink trees, probably meant to be cherry blossoms:

Is this a tree option available in the base game, or just a clever use of the block coloring mechanics? In any case, I'd love to see something like fruit trees that you can plant and grow. Imagine cultivating your very own orchard in Hytale!

Hey guys - we’re really busy this week with GDC on the way, not to mention Hytale production itself. We’re going to take a break from blog posts this week and come back next week ❤️
Sucks that there's not gonna be a new blog post this week but it's good to know just how hard they're working

Hytale Discussion & Speculation

After taking a break last week to prepare for GDC and focus on the game, the Hytale team came back today with a new blog post showing off some more of Oscar Garvin's excellent music from the Hytale soundtrack! A New Adventure and Kweebec Village convey the bright and cheery atmosphere of Zone 1, while Gaia's Lament is a legitimately haunting piece which sets the tone for the desolate wastes of Zone 2. Garvin also talks about his thought process when it comes to creating Hytale music, so be sure to check out the post if you want to learn more about that!

Incidentally, I had a dream the other night that this was exactly what the next Hytale post would be. As usual, the devil's in the details: besides the music stuff, there were a handful of supplementary video clips. One of these actually showed off a sandstorm in Zone 2, giving us a hint at what we might see in terms of weather in Hytale:

So, yeah, overall awesome blog post.

Yesterday's blog post was quite insightful, giving us a look into the development process behind the different points of interest you'll encounter in Hytale's adventure mode. They demonstrate how the process works by taking us step-by-step through the development of a generated structure known as the elemental circle.

We see it go from its early state…

To the finished version:

Well worth checking out if you're interested in how Hytale is made, or even just game development in general

Hytale Discussion & Speculation

Today, the Hytale team surprised us with an early blog post, giving us new Hytale info on Thursday rather than the usual Friday! :D The subject matter does not disappoint: today's post is about how the Hytale team builds immersive NPC behaviors using modular systems. Using trorks as an example, they discuss the techniques they use to bring NPCs to life and the process of developing different systems. There are also video clips which give us a *little* bit more of an idea of the kind of feel they're going for in the game. Exciting stuff :3

As I said previously, the latest video clips featured in today's blog post might give a little more insight into the look and feel of the Hytale world. Specifically, we see a trork emote in a very particular way when reacting to a situation. When the NPC spots a discarded meat on the ground, he visually takes notice of it:

What I'm interested in, in particular, are the little exclamation points coming out of his head. It fits in well with the cartoony style, and is obviously reminiscent of similar visual indicators we've seen in games before (like how little hearts come out of mobs' heads in Minecraft). I'm interested to know if they have more of these little effects in store…or if this'll even make it to the final game! After all, everything shown off in the blog post is subject to change. It may seem like this is an insignificant detail to be fixated on, but tiny stuff like this can hugely affect the look and feel of a game.

Hytale Discussion & Speculation

The more I hear about this game, the more it honestly seems like Hytale will be akin to Elder Scrolls rather than Minecraft. Think about it: each aims to be an immersive and unique fantasy world with quests and factions, dungeons and leveled items, monsters and NPCs, magic of all kinds, and random encounters; all running on an engine featuring extensive built-in modding support with the tools used to make the game being freely accessible. Past Elder Scrolls titles even relied on procedurally generated content, making up the meat of both Arena and Daggerfall's enormous game worlds.

What's especially interesting is how stuff like this was once promised in Minecraft, and how the game ended up taking a totally different direction. We may be looking at not just “Minecraft 2” here, but “The Minecraft We Never Got.”
