offline editor version
The current downloadable version of the offline editor is 1.2.1
Has it been updated or is the current download still the first offline editor version since Scratch's update to 3.0?
Will the offline editor update automatically and if not how can I check the version # of my copy to see if I need to update it?

Um, I think you've got it confused. The version of the offline editor is 1.2.1, not Scratch. The current offline editor is updated to Scratch v3.0, and 2.0 is also available as well as 1.4.
If I'm explaining it confusingly, I'll just summarize it - there are three offline editors; one for Scratch 3.0, one for 2.0, and one for 1.4.
Edit: I got the question confused

Once again..
When you download the Scratch 3.0 version of the offline editor the file named “Scratch Desktop Setup 1.2.1.exe”
How do I know which version I already have, how do I check? I need to know that to know whether or not I need to download the latest version. Unless the latest version is still the first version of Scratch 3.0's offline editor or unless the offline editor is auto-updating (I don't think it is)
Does anyone actually have an answer to any of my questions?

I downloaded the latest version and installed it directly over my existing offline editor. It seems to have fixed the issue I was having (I couldn't save a project after adding songs, Scratch would freeze) so I'm going to assume it updated.
Edit: Yep, confirmed that the last offline editor file was “Scratch Desktop Setup 1.2.0.exe” so the current download is an upgrade and since I had to do it by hand I'd say the offline editor is not auto- updating itself. As for how to open it once installed and check its current version, still no clue?

I know you fixed your problem, but I confused myself. I didn't know you were trying to check what version you had. xD

There's no known current way of finding out the installed version of Scratch Desktop
We just have to keep checking the download site from time to time
mm - I wonder if I could make a 'bot to scrape the site each day and alert me if it gets updated?

To check your offline editor's version open Scratch then click on the Scratch logo at the top left.
To check the most current available version for download go to the download page then mouse over the file download link and look at the file name.
Then you will know if you are up to date.

How to check what version of Scratch Offline Editor you have? (Is this thread still open?)
For me, on a MAC (OS 10.15.7), clicking on the Scratch logo in the top-left corner does nothing at all.
However, clicking on the ? in the top-right corner brings up a little menu showing ‘About’, ‘Privacy Policy’ and ‘Data Settings’.
Clicking on ‘About’ shows you a window with the Version - in my case 3.29.1.
(Also lists some other version numbers Electron 15.3.1, Chrome 94.0.4606.81, Node 16.5.0 but I don't know what they mean)
I downloaded Scratch Offline again just to see if it was the same as I had already, and I note that the downloaded file ‘Scratch 3.29.1.dmg’ now includes a version number, which it didn't do before, I think.
