Do you mean he comes up through the bottom of it?

he goes right through the platform he can jump up through it from the bottom and either side but not when the sprite is on top the platform

The tutorial you followed only shows you a simple idea for velocity, jumping and bouncing it does nothing for sideways or top detection, so will never work as a platformer unless you start sensing around the character. People usually add either sensors around the character for that or flip costumes to detect platforms to the side or above as well as below..

ok i followed the scrathc tutorial to sensing but for some reason he isnt bouncing away from the plat forms still. I made it so that the sensor followed the sprite forever and this still hasnt fixed it , please some help me again -_-
