We wanted to make a post today to help provide some guidelines and clarify our policies around the use of points or virtual currencies to buy and sell sprites, art, or other things on Scratch. It’s great that people are using these to make new and creative projects for Scratch, but there are a few trends we see happening that could cause problems.
Some specific things we want to address are:
- Participation in these point systems must be completely optional. You can create a studio with rules that you would like people to follow, but all of Scratch’s Community Guidelines still apply. For example, all projects on Scratch are remixable. If someone doesn’t give you ‘points’ for something, they can still remix, re-color, and share parts of those projects on Scratch as long as they follow the Community Guidelines.
- It is not okay to say mean things, demand that Scratchers ‘pay’ if they have remixed or used something from your projects, or encourage others to post mean comments to someone because they didn’t participate in the point system.
Our sanctions ladder has behaviours in accordance with this meaning that a member of staff will have the incident recorded, and the shop notified.- Many of the projects being created require people to agree to some set of rules they must follow. Your project can include a list of rules, but it shouldn’t insist people do anything that doesn’t line up with our Community Guidelines.
We wouldn't do that, as this is made in complete alliance with the guidelines. If you feel something misalligns with the guidelines let us know and we may make a change if we think your issue is reasonable.- Using something that feels like a real currency, such as creating a new crypto-currency for these studios, is not allowed on Scratch. Creating your own pretend point system that you keep track of in projects, comments, or studios is fine, but you should avoid doing anything that feels more like real money than this. Scratch isn’t meant for advertising or buying and selling things with real-world money. Got it - no cryptocurrencies XD (Seriously, what's a cryptocurrency?)

Someone is fraudulently using points or offering to give them out…
You need to tell us now. We can notify all of S+ which is connected furtherly to shops, and shut down the scam.
Someone has accessed your account and is using your points
Again, tell us now and we can do all we can to turn the steering wheel so that nobody can access the points. Change your account password while we track pointflow to try to refund you. If you know the approximate date your account was accessed, we are more likely to track down prices.
A shop is misusing the points so you need to get them fraudulently
Please let us know so we can resolve the issue. We can block the shop until the issue is fixed.
All of these jobs are very complicated, so please consider the nature of the situation.

How to keep points secure
To keep your points secure:
NEVER try to get money through an alt. An exception to this would be for a few different cases.
Keep your password secure, and if you're on a break get the account paused. This will give you a secret PIN, which must be verified through an alt.
Any other ideas? Please let us know and we'll add them.
