Import projects

This is a feature that wouldn't be to hard to implement, but would make collaboration on projects so much easier. The basic idea is the you can completely put one project into another, including sounds, scripts, backdrops etc. You can achieve something similar via the backpack, but you have to take every script and every backdrop etc. and there are still problems with all variables created being local. Obviously there would have to be error messages, like “The two variables ‘score’ share the same name” which would prevent importing which would corrupt projects.

Yeah, that's an very excellent idea!
I would also like this.

No support.

Honestly, such an idea already exists in the form of remixing. In fact, your suggestion may turn out to be worse than remixing, because wouldn't people just be able to import anyone's project into an empty one, and then share it? From there, do you get automatic credit when they share the project, like you do with remixing?
  • If you do, then there is no point to adding this suggestion, because it is essentially the same as remixing.

  • If you don't, then that would be a huge problem of people stealing others' work without giving credit.
Since both possibilities lead to either a problem or a redundancy, I see no reason to implement this suggestion, for it can already be done.

If you don't like remixing, then you could alternatively download the project to your computer and re-upload it into a new project. This is discouraged, though, because of the fact that the automatic credit is removed.

This used to be a feature in 2.0 where an imported project would override the old project you were viewing.

Support, sure it can be used for “evil”, but it's up to everyone to decide whether or not they will.

I think I may have come across a bit unclear, so just for clarification:

The idea is not to be able to import others projects into your own(although thinking about it it probably could be used for that) but rather joining projects on the same account into one.

The idea came from the fact that I'm participating in a scratch competition with a team, and since it has already been said live editing Google docs style is not possible, this would be a way to allow multiple people to work on the same project at once

Ah, I see — it appears I misunderstood your initial suggestion.

Nevertheless, such a collaboration idea is currently rejected by the Scratch Team, as far as I'm aware, even if it's not live editing. I don't know exactly how limiting this would be for the servers, if at all — but I know for a fact that it could be used for private messaging, which the Scratch Team wants to avoid.

Unless, of course, you are suggesting some sort of way to make the collaboration public for everyone to see (not necessarily edit, just see).
