How do you use the GPIO extensions for the Raspberry Pi in Scratch?

You can control the GPIO pins on a Pi using either the Scratch 2 or original Scratch (1.4) that comes installed on the full Raspbian download

They require different approaches

Which one are you trying to use?

Can someone teach me the basics of Raspberry PI? I can learn it on w3schools but I don't have one. If I could just learn something that you need to know before using it.

It depends on the function you are going to use it for. I assume you are going to use it for scratch purposes, so I'd suggest buying something from here to go with the raspberry, then download the manual to the corresponding kit here that should teach you the stuff you need to know before you start with scratch and raspberry pi.

The way to learn about a Raspberry Pi is to buy one and use it.

The Raspberry site has loads of information on getting started with it including its own forum

The pins can be connected to things like LEDs and switches so you can read whether is a switch is turned off or on and you can make the LEDs switch on and off.

If you connect HATs like the Raspberry Pi SenseHAT - you can control an 8x8 RGB matrix and read values from the temperature and gyro and acceleromtiters. There are a couple of these up on the ISS doing measurements and experiements

If you connect motor controllers, you can make a vehicular robot and you can add ultrasonic sensors so it can avoid objects

plus many many more things
