In all seriousness, what's wrong with studio notifications?
Why does everyone hate studio notifications?
okay, well not everyone
So, over the months, I've seen lots of people complain about studio notifications. They express it through projects (animations in particular), suggestions (“plz remove studio activity” etc.), and even studios??? (okay you've gotta admit, that's just 200% ironic). On my profile, not long ago, (comment deleted, lol don't look for it) after having invited them to a studio, someone claimed that those notifications were so annoying to the extent that they quit. Quitting over a studio notification. Isn't that overreacting? And when there's a suggestion about removing studio activity or making it optional, everyone supports except me.. I don't really understand what's so wrong with it, and I'd like to know what people really think about studio stuff. So here is my reasoning about why it's useful and what I don't understand about people hating studio messages.
In my opinion, when you curate a studio, you adhere to it. So when you're in, you're supposed to keep up with what's going on in that studio, right? It's useful to receive a studio notification, because then you're aware that something happened in this or that studio. However, I am not saying that you must check the studio you're in each time you receive a notification, don't misinterpret my post. Here's an example: let's say you curate a studio that is very important for you, but it isn't very active. At the end of the day, you receive a message saying there was a new activity in this particular studio. Will you really find it annoying, or will you actually check out what happened? Personally, I would actually check out what happened in this studio if I were in this case (I am, with one of my studios). This is one of the benefits of studio activity. You become informed of what's going on. The “downside” is that if you join too many studios, it can get annoying, and you get excited about messages for no reason. Back on topic, so why does it receive so much hate? One doesn't just join 100 studios and complain about studio activity, you gotta assume that you decided to join in the first place. You take an action, you suffer the consequences. That's like if I decided to join a studio that required lots of work and I complained that there's too much work. Can't you just leave some studios if you have too many messages? If there are any studios that you aren't interested in, just leave it. Possible reply: “the studio is too big, I can't find myself”. World_Languages even made a tutorial on how to find yourself and delete yourself from a big studio! And this is why I don't join too many studios. My advice would be, don't join more than 10-14 studios.
Or if that solution doesn't work, ignore them. 85% of the messages on my alt accounts @NilsTheBest_FR and @NTB-laboratory are studio notifications. It's been 7 months. You'd expect me to complain at some point; but no, I have only talked about studio activity once on @NilsTheBest_FR, and that not only was 5 months ago, but it was also in a joking tone. In short, if you find those annoying: A) Leave some studios, stop complaining about studio notifications, and assume that you're the one who decided to join them in the first place B) learn to ignore them C) Just don't join too many studios D) See my other suggestion at the bottom of the post.
So in all honesty, I'd like you to reply to this. Why do you think most people hate studio notifications, or if you do, what makes you dislike those notifications? Please don't reply with a generic “it's annoying”, develop and argument WHY you find it annoying. I'm really willing to know, it's something I've been wondering for a while now.
Thank you for your time.
Edit: so, I've thought of a way you can ignore studio activity or stop thinking about it. Here's something I came up with.
At what time of the day do the studio notifications strike? Where I am, studio notifications always strike from 1 am to 2 am. Usually, if you joined a lot of studios and a lot of them are active, you should be receiving a ton of messages right? So how can we stop being disappointed in those messages…? You can remember that studio activity always come at the same moment of the day. So when it's that time of the day, and you receive a bunch of messages all at once, you can be practically sure to expect studio stuff. Like this, before you open your message box, you know that you'll be disappointed. That way, you're not as frustrated as you would be.
The solution that I just proposed, is what I do all the time. And it makes me forget about studio notifications. It's very effective. You should try that too, if you haven't already.
Solutions?
Option 1: Thanks to @bidulule for this amazing idea: https://scratch.mit.edu/discuss/topic/332799/?page=5#post-3415665
Option 2: Or @LegoManiac04's mockup:

I hate them because I think it's a real message (I dont get many) but it's just a studio message and I'm like:

Probably because they can get rather annoying to some. These days I don't get many notifications (mostly because I've really slowed down my activity since 3.0) and it can feel pretty disappointing to get a notification and realize it's just something you don't care about.

I know that you joined over 100 studios, but you shouldn't join that many then.

Often people join studios so they can post their projects in them, not necessarily to see what other people are doing.
Personally I would support a user setting for each studio saying I want notifications for that studio. Or not.

Some probably don't want to leave the studio because they do still care about it, but don't like getting notifications for it for whatever reason.Probably because they can get rather annoying to some. Personally I would support a user setting for each studio saying I want notifications for that studio. Or not.
1) User A decides to join studio because he wants to put his projects in there, not because he is interested in joining the studio for a specific reason
2) User A then does the same with 200 studios
3) Complains about studio activity.
What's the logic in there?
As I said earlier, ya take an action, ya suffer the consequences. What would you expect?

In my personal opinion, I would like an option for certain studios to turn off notifications, but leave it on for other ones. For example, I am an SDS curator, and I don't need to be informed that there is activity in the SDS, because there is guaranteed to be activity every day until a new SDS releases. But, for certain studios I would still like to receive the messages. It can be quite annoying when I receive studio messages, thinking they are comments or someone loving or faving my project.

Lol i disagree.
Studios notifications are useless.
First, we can already be aware of what happens in a studio by following it. The newest projects will appear in the “studios I'm following” section.
Also, having notification at a specific moment of the day is useless cauz it doesn't show up immediately when there is an activity in the studio. So we can't follow conversation thanks to it.

Lol i disagree. This does not always work. The only projects I can see under that tab on the front page (at least for me) is entirely projects that are in a studio that I am no longer following. So, it does not work for all Scratchers. Furthermore, that tab does not notify us of any description changes or comments — and there are plenty of studios where those exist, even if projects are not added to them.

And I don't think that projects-related activity in studios deserves a notification…
We don't get a notification from every single active scratcher we're following… So I don't understand why it would be the case for studios

In my opinion, the more options the better! A said before by others, many people curate studios to add their projects and nothing else. Not every studio needs to be a commitment.
I absolutely agree that people should quit studios they have no interest in, but I also think there should be options for turning studio notifications off. Not only that, but there should be an option for every kind of notification! For example, I'm only interested in comments and forum posts, so I should be able to turn everything I don't care about off!

It's because they fill up notifications without being particularly useful. When I check my notifications, I want to see important things like comments or forum posts, not the fact that something non-specific has happened in a forum I'm a part of.

It's because they fill up notifications without being particularly useful.Sometimes they aren't useful, sometimes they are. Some studios of mine aren't very active, so I like to know when there was a new activity there and what it was.

not the fact that something non-specific has happened in a studio I'm a part of.I think you can just ignore the messages, as I said the original post. There's a lot of studios I curate that are guaranteed to have an activity every day, like Feedback for feedback, FPC applications, or my fanclub. It's good to know that they always arrive at the same period of the day, (1 am to 2 am for me) so when you receive a bunch of messages at once, you know that you're expecting studio notifications. It's been one year and I still haven't complained about studio activity. I've mostly been complaining about people complaining about studio notifications.
