Scratch 3.0
Hey,
Scratch Team:
Listen: This is 3.0… It took almost 3 hours for you guys to download it on to the actual scratch while we got to wait around…
Now: this is not supposed to hurt anybodies feelings, but honestly, in 3.0 you guys pretty much just changed the layout, not any of the scripts, not any more project modes, just making it a bit more complicated…
There are some things I really want to do, like Co-op mode where you can make projects with your friends!
Come on scratch, please add some different things!
Thanks,
MG57

Scratch 3.0
Nah, they did a lot more than that. 3.0 is a new program mostly from scratch in an entirely different programming language. It was quite a lot of work for the scratch team to make. They just wanted to get it running and working before flash and 2.0 wasn't usable. There are some new features, just look at extensions, there will also be more to come in the future.
As for co-op mode. It's already been rejected. It's pretty much imposable to moderate and would likely be a lot more taxing on servers.

Do you think they will add more things later in 3.0?

Scratch 3.0
Scratch 3 was created from the ground up in JavaScript, whereas all previous versions were created in Adobe Flash, a dying, slow, security-flaw riddled browser extension from the late 90's. Not only is JavaScript MUCH more powerful and compatible than Flash, but most browsers will be dropping support for Flash here in about a year or so. I don't quite like the new layout, but I'll learn. The new Extensions are amazing, and make it much easier for Scratch Team to add cool new features to Scratch easily without cluttering the code-bar, as extensions are optional. Also, Improvements are being made to Scratch 3 as we speak. The GitHub page has been very busy with changes to the code for Scratch happening constantly. Scratch 3 just came out, and they released it in its current state in order for them to receive feedback from the community about features and bugs. Given some time, I'm sure most of the problems we have with it now will be gone, and the others are just things we will have to get used to. If you haven't already noticed, Scratch's performance increased dramatically when Scratch 3 came out. Some of my very demanding and laggy projects now run at a silky-smooth 30 fps, which is the maximum for Scratch. It sucks right now, but Scratch Team is working hard to iron out all of the problems we have with it. Just be patient. Really?

Scratch 3.0
Any possibility to have the previous interface 2.0?
My son has opened Scratch this morning first time since last year and he vas VERY DISAPPOINTED
by the interface.
Everything has been changed : the layout, the colours.
He has just dropped it and get to the offline version.
Are you guys aware of those who has started to code with the version 2.0 and so used to use it?
Was it really necessary to change so drastically the layout and the colours?

2.0 is not coming back. It has been completely gutted from the site and attempting to replace it would be more trouble than it's worth. It's also built off of an awful, slow, security-hole-filled technology that probably should have died years ago. Thank you for the link, I know the offline version and my son has switched to it just because of the online version new interface.2.0 is not coming back. I do not want the product to come back, I understand all the reasons to go to the new version with new features/security fixes/speedup etc.
What I would like is to have the same interface for the great product as it was in 2.0 and to which my son and I think other beginners have been attached so much.
Also, maybe my son's case will be important for the Scratch interface developers, as it shows a negative feedback about what they have created. If the developers are interested, I could ask my son more details about what he dislikes in it and share it with the developers.

Scratch 3.0
Sorry to tell you this, but as far as I know, the Scratch Team is not considering redesigning the UI to be more like Scratch 2.0. The 3.0 interface is designed to work better on tablets and be more appealing to the target audience of 8-12 year olds.Thank you for the link, I know the offline version and my son has switched to it just because of the online version new interface.2.0 is not coming back. Last I checked most 8-12 year olds I've met, don't like saturated colors and flat shapes. Now for my opinion on the matter, if their going to have bright colors they need contrast, so that you have light and dark colors at the same time. The 3.0 interface is designed to work better on tablets and be more appealing to the target audience of 8-12 year olds.

interface for the great product as it was in 2.0 and to which my son and I think other beginners have been attached so much.i understand why you want to make this happen, but unfortunately, it just can't. scratch 2.0 is based on flash, which is being unsupported next year, so if they were to stay with flash, the editor (along with every project on the site) would no longer be functional. and it's not just as simple to porting the interface over; they are full-on remaking scratch from the ground up through a different means entirely, through the same framework that's used to create What I would like is to have the same websites themselves. they wouldn't be able to have nearly as much creative liberty with graphical aspects because all of that is specified inside of the code itself. this would make it nearly impossible to recreate 2.0's design, so not only is the 3.0 layout more suited to scratch's target audience and use on mobile devices, it's frankly just what's realistic.
