I was wondering how to import pictures/ backgrounds into Scratch? If anyone knows, thanks! I'm not very good at using the new Scratch editor as you the ‘'fill’' tool doesn't work in the way I'd expect it too…

Well, the paint bucket still being worked on, so it might change to something better in the future. Anyway, to import a picture/background, just go to the Costumes/Backdrops tab tab, then click the either the button that looks like a file, or click on “NEW COSTUME”, and then on “Import” It'll very depending on if you're in the background's backdrops or in a sprite's costumes.

I tried clicking the file and choosing the file but it still doesn't work. Does it have to a be vector file? It's a bitmap 256 colour paint file…

No, it doesn't have to be a vector image, though it can't be a bitmap image. Instead, you could try uploading your image as a .png.

No, that's the right icon. If you truly are uploading a .png, then this is strange because it's always been working for me.

So, just to make sure, what image format did you try to use this second time around?

png works
jpg works
but remember there are multiple codecs for images scratch just might not understand one of them
