When I got into the Smash Bros series I thought of a fanmade Super Smash Bros Switch with newcomers and everything.

I know some like Garfield and Corey are a bit off left field, but most I came up with when I was unfamilliar with the Smash character rule.
What do you think of the character selection I have?

Some characters seem plausible, others have been deconfirmed and some are just… why?

I remember making a Smash Bros Ultimate Meme List that contains around 350 characters, and your list reminds me of that

I put in Goku because he is heavily requested and Sakurai is all about hype.

Garfield and Game Boy Camera were before I realized the levels where Smash characters could be requested. By the time I realized I worked too much on the characters and I just kept them in.

TV/Movie-originating characters? Seriously? Name one already-existing character like that in Smash. If you do you’ll change my mind.

Pokemon had an anime. While the games came first, most people remember Pokemon for the anime.

Also when I came up with those characters, I didn't know about the TV/Movie rule.

That's subjective- while some people likely remember the game for the anime, I've definitely heard of many people whose main experience with Pokemon comes from the games. On top of that, just because it's known for the anime doesn't change the fact it's a popular game and was also originally a game as well, unlike your suggestions. I personally first head of Pokemon through the card games, doesn't mean the series is actually mainly a card game with the games and anime taking a backseat.

But why Espeon, out of all 8 of Eevee's evolutions? More people want Eevee to be a fighter than any of its evolutions to be even as much as an Assist Trophy.

Espeon has a lot of move potential. Eevee can't do anything but headbutt.
