In my year at school, about a quarter of the entire year group (around 50 people) have Plants vs Zombies on their laptop and as far as I know, only one person bought it.

seems fine

And all the world over, each nation's the same,
They've simply no notion of playing the game.
They argue with umpires, they cheer when they've won,
And they practice beforehand, which ruins the fun!

Gloom Shrooms w/ pumpkins in the pool: no really dangerous zombies show up in the pool and the gloom shrooms cover the 2nd and 4th rows.
From there you can basically just use Winter Melons and Cob Cannons for everything else

Any other tips? Also, should I just use garlic for the 1st and 6th rows?

Plants Vs. Zombies 2 is actually good if you keep a good distance from all of the trash EA added into the game. Or in the case you still don't want to try it, boot up Cheat Engine w/ the original PVZ, and go to town with the cheats.

Ok, as somebody that played PVZ1 from version 1.0.0, I can say for sure that some of these ratings don't line up. Yes, I have played PVZ 9 years ago when it was released in 2009, back when I was in 1st grade, so obviously I have beaten every single adventure and minigame level there is, not to mention 233 flags on Last stand endless.

To start off, Peashooter is a 7/10. Without peashooter, you will never get through the tutorial, because there is no other defense as of then. Also, peashooter is a general use plant. Easy to use on every level except for the roof, but even then, I beat roof level with peashooters and no lobbing plants. Easy well rounded plant. Not the best, but you cant deny that its well rounded.

Snow pea would be more like a 3/10. Its slowing effect will be offset by its cost and low damage, and also the fact that ice shroom exists. Never even used it once due to it slow usability.

Sun shroom is better at sunflower in fog and night, but thats only 40% of adventure. Rather a 6/10.

Hypno shroom is my favorite plant to use, but I would still have to give it a 6/10. It's not especially effective as an instant, because it doesn't kill gargantuars or any zombie that doesn't eat.

Ice Shroom is actually extremely useful, as freeze is amazingly overpowered. It's freeze, unlike snow pea, actually freezes zeds. Then slows them some more. Very useful. 9/10.

Threepeater is pretty good for space to attack area ratio. I would give it a higher rating, but 325 sun is overkill. probably a 4/10 from me.

Spikeweed is a 10/10. It's not expensive at all, and it is very useful due to spikerock existing. Place it in front of a nut or pumpkin and you'll see the power.

Tall nut is better than wall nut, but it also costs 2.5 times more, with longer recharge. Same rate as wallnut (plus after you get the repair thing you can just repair your wallnut to full health again)

Torchwood is 10/10. Lights up fog and makes peas double damage. Pretty op, if I do have to say so myself. But it does cost a little to much.

Sea Shroom is 10/10. The slow recharge is because you only need to defend 2 pool lanes, so you don't even need that many of these.

Honestly, plantern is a 2/10. I just use blover instead.

Split pea cannot be rated, since it's a niche plant. Miner zeds also found in endless last stand. But honestly you can just use gloom shroom.

Pumpkin is 10/10. Extra protection for all plants is a must in nearly every level there is.

Magnet shroom is 10/10. I have a feeling that you have a hard time dealing with football, miner, ladder, and bucket zeds when your instants are on recharge. Magnet shroom is a MUST HAVE.

Cabbage pult is an easy 9/10. He can vault over a screendoor zed's screendoor. Also does two times the dps of a peashooter, and ttk is lower.

Flower pot is a 10/10 because even though it isn't used much in Adventure, you cant plant on a roof without it.

The butter boi is a 7/10. The stun is pretty useful, but you need these for cob cannon, so they aren't useless.

Garlic is 9/10. Very useful for non-gargantuar last stand stages.

Umbrella leaf is 10/10. Last stand endless has bungees and basketball lanching bois left and right. Also required in adventure, so I don't know why it's a 5/10.

Coffee bean cannot be rated, it is a necessity to wake magnets and glooms.

Gatling pea is a 10/10. Even without torchwood, it is tremendously powerful and can take a bucket solo.

Fume shroom + gloom shroom: very good dps, and even better usage when it turns into a gloom. 8/10 and 10/10 respectively.

Spikerock is 10/10. Look at spikeweed.

Gold mag and Marigold:
Niche use, cannot be rated. Pair these two up in endless.

Cattail is 10/10. My favorite plant and by far the most overpowered one. I don't know why it is a 3/10 because it is an amazing plant. Super rapid, consistent thorns that cover every single lane along with the ability to crack down balloons automatically constitutes the plant as OP. Also, 25+225 isnt that costly. Plant 6 and you can clear a pool level (along with wallnuts and pumpkins for stall, plop a spikeweed in front).

Winter melon is an easy 2/10. Basically a melon pult but slows down zeds… so 300+200 and thats a whopping 500… Honestly, not useful at all, way too costly and unusable in last stand endless.

Cob cannon is 7/10. Only reason being the rearming time is slow. Useful in last stand endless, but no advent levels require this plant. Also very costly, being 700 in total.

Imitater is a 10/10. Very good for quick gargantuar takedowns (double instant, easy kill). It is very useful in advent.

Honestly, I don't know your playstyle, but judging from this you rely on pure brute force instead of actual tactics.

I recommend getting 6 double sunflowers. Place one in upper left corner, second bottom left, the last four in a 2x2 from left side of pool.

Basically, you need coffee bean for gloom shroom… plant the gloomies in the second column from left on all but pool lanes.

In next 3 columns, plant cattails (so 6 cattails).

Below the top sunflower, umbrella leaf. Above bottom sunflower, umbrella leaf.

Then for next 3 rows on the grass, plant repeaters, then gataling peas. Torchwood them all. (12 gat, 4 torch)

In front of cattails, plant tallnuts.

In front of that, plant doom shroom, but dont wake it up yet, she's for emergencies.

Then pumpkin EVERYTHING (imitater helps).

Then put spikerocks basically on what land you have left.

Sea Shroom is 10/10.
no

EDIT: Ok I should give you an actual response shouldn't I

The reason I despise Sea-Shroom is because, frankly, it takes up a slot that I'd much rather use on a better plant. Puff-shroom + lily pad only costs 25 sun anyways, and sun really isn't that tight in night levels even though the game makes you think it is. (I mean I do have a consistent 2 rows of sunflowers at all times, and sometimes even 3 rows of sun-shrooms but y'know)
Most of the time I skip the puff-shroom and go straight to scaredy-shroom anyway, so early pool defense is never a problem. Especially considering the fact that you have a good 5 or so zombies to get your sun production rolling before they start showing up in the pool, by which time you should have a decent defense basically on all fronts.

EDIT 2: By the way since you were saying you don't know what my strategy looks like it's basically I try to get as much sun production as I can while taking out the first 3 or 4 zombies with potato mines, and then I just start putting down repeaters / melon-pults / whatever. (And when you said “brute force instead of tactics” the whole game is easy enough that it doesn't really matter much anyways so  )

I honestly hate Tall Nut in the first game. He costs too much, has a slow recharge, and to top it all off, the only thing that distances him from Wall Nut is that he blocks jumping zombies. Also, I don't like Sea Shroom or Phat Beet. Phat Beet does very little damage and is only really useful when boosted, and Sea Shroom is essentially a Puff Shroom, except it's only useful in ONE world, since you have to use a Coffee Bean on it to work in the Pool levels, and by the time you get Sea Shroom, YOU DON'T HAVE COFFEE BEAN! I agree that it's best just to use a Puff Shroom and Lily Pad.

I really like Tall-Nut because I'm basically always rolling in sun so the extra 75 really doesn't mean much for me

So on second thought I think I was too harsh on Cattail, and Pumpkin should definitely be rated higher (no idea what the heck I was thinking giving it a 6 it's like a 9 or 10 for sure) and umbrella leaf maybe should get an extra point or two but apart from that I still mostly agree with myself from a few months ago
