Why does Scratch occasionally shut down(be unavailable)?
Question in title. Today Scratch displayed a message saying, “Scratch is currently unavailable” and then it changed to, “Scratch is having trouble”. Why does this sometimes happen?

Why does Scratch occasionally shut down(be unavailable)?
Happened yesterday too. The “Scratch is unavailable/We're having server issues” is actually a 500 Error (Server Error Mode) and the “Scratch is having trouble” message is a 503 Error (Unexpected Server Maintenance Mode). The only reason I can think is that they're testing something.

Maintenance break, I suppose. No idea why they had it, I haven't noticed any changes.
Maybe an ST member can elaborate on this…?

Maybe they're testing out the errors or they could be working on a new design for the forums. Happened yesterday too. Why does Scratch occasionally shut down(be unavailable)?
Scratch isn't perfect, so sometimes the servers malfunction. They could also be adding updates to the site, and they want to clear the servers while doing so. Often when they're adding major updates, you won't be able to access the site until later. Another possibility is that they test out and/or fix bugs on the site. You won't be able to use the online version during this time, but the offline 1.4 and 2.0 is always available to download. Question in title. Hope this helped!

Perhaps the first one, if it was the second one they would go into Maintenance Mode instead of Server Error Mode or Unexpected Server Maintenance Mode.Maybe they're testing out the errors or they could be working on a new design for the forums. We know that Scratch isn't perfect, so sometimes the servers malfunction.

Again, Maintenance Mode, not this. They could also be adding updates to the site, and they want to clear the servers while doing so. Often when they're adding major updates, you won't be able to access the site until late
They would still use Maintenance Mode, not this. Another possibility is that they test out and/or fix bugs on the site.

Why does Scratch occasionally shut down(be unavailable)?
They just turn off the website without any real reason shown. Yesterday it was just talking about a "Scratch Day" contest…

Why does Scratch occasionally shut down(be unavailable)?
Yesterday and the day before was without reason. They just turn off the website without any real reason shown.
According to Paddle2See it was server issues.
I wonder if it will happen again at 10pm today.

That's not ‘no reason’ then- the reason is that they were having server problems and therefore were not able to keep the site up.Yesterday and the day before was without reason. They just turn off the website without any real reason shown.

It probably should say that on the front page instead of shutting down the whole site down just to say that.Yeah, it doesn't make sense.Scratch Day celebrations on December 1 make the site go down. We're talking about the “twitter” page that shows up…That's not ‘no reason’ then- the reason is that they were having server problems and therefore were not able to keep the site up.Yesterday and the day before was without reason. That's not the reason they shut down the site…
That's just what was on their twitter at the time (which shows up as the reason on the maintenance page because usually they will post a reason there)

Maybe they were too busy thinking about Scratch Day that they just forgot about Scratch being alive and when it crashed they just let it stay off until they remembered.…It probably should say that on the front page instead of shutting down the whole site down just to say that.Yeah, it doesn't make sense.Scratch Day celebrations on December 1 make the site go down. We're talking about the “twitter” page that shows up…That's not ‘no reason’ then- the reason is that they were having server problems and therefore were not able to keep the site up.Yesterday and the day before was without reason. Why does Scratch occasionally shut down(be unavailable)?
Although there is no exact evidence for this being the reason of the shutdown, there is the Twitter post(which is evidence) about Scratch Day, but this can be a theory of why it happened.Maybe they were too busy thinking about Scratch Day that they just forgot about Scratch being alive and when it crashed they just let it stay off until they remembered.

We literally just said that's not why it shut down…
Why would they shut down the website to tell people about something? Obviously it showed that on the maintenance page because they didn't update their twitter.
Paddle2See even said it was due to network problems.
Minieepicness was joking.
Please make sure you've read the replies before posting, thanks (no offence)

Scratch has a weekly one hour maintenance break, it changes time each week.
