Well, look at all of us, just sittin' here, on the forums, learning nothing. Why would they block scratch? It is an educational website. It literally ends with .mit. I'm in a new grade, I use a school computer every weekday at lunchEDU. EDU as in EDUcation. And the mit stands for Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a university. This entire website is a glorified, overdone college website. Why would they block a college website? And it is also a huge educational tool for teaching kids about how to code and stuff. Them blocking scratch would be like blocking…heck…I dunno. Google or something. It would be like declaring the library off limits to all students and burning its contents. It would not make any sense. Also, if you have not found a blocked site yet, I do not think you have been trying very hard.
It uses Windows 10, and I haven't found a blocked site yet. Not even Scratch is blocked.
I use Chrome btw

I mean, that's an actual thing though. You can't credit google because it is not the source of information, just the means of accessing those sources. Wikipedia is an actual source you can give credit too. Crediting google is like saying you buy groceries from a car. You don't buy groceries from a car. You buy it from a store that you get to using the car. The car is just the way you get to the groceries, like how google is the way you get to the sources.Ah, your school is the kind that believes wikipedia is behind the fall of the roman empire, the black death, the spanish inquisition, the first world war, the great depression, the holocaust, and 9/11, is it?I guess the thinking is that you could put a youtube link in word then access it via word and bypass the school's blocking system, but IDK. What I want to know is how you would even get to youtube from microsoft word in the first place.
Kind of reminds me of when a supply teacher taught us we could access blocked sites by putting them into google translate and visiting the translated page google provides. Don't worry, they were teaching us this since pretty much every site except Wikipedia and BBC Bitesize was blocked and we needed to research stuff, not just so we could break the rules.
I was about to say. Lol, why is every site except Wikipedia and BBC blocked? We aren't even allowed to use Wikipedia for schoolwork, but it's not blocked.
This reminds me of science class in seventh grade. Whenever we made a Google Slide for a presentation, one of the teachers would put in all caps “DO NOT CREDIT GOOGLE” because it was just a search engine.
Nice analogy there.

Our school/district decided to enforce a secure filter that automatically cuts off the internet connection at 10:00 PM on our Chromebooks. Now this is a terrible idea because we use these Chromebooks for homework and when you still have work open, you can't really do anything about it because the filter will block you from trying to turn in your work.

Well, see, yes, there is the…what… ten or twelve of us who are on this forum, and others who just use the forums, but there are also tons of people who actually learn from scratch. I know I learned from scratch. I have just ended up being mostly on the forums and in some rp studios because that is what I personally enjoy. There are plenty of teachers who use scratch to teach kids code, and the website is, first and foremost, an educational website. If you are some teacher or administrative person who is just seeing the website for the first time, it is not immediately apparent that you can exist here solely on the forums. What you mostly see is stuff about how scratch is educational and people using the things they have learned to make orange cats spin in circles while the screen changes colors in whatever way is most likely to prove fatal to epileptics. And even on the forums, there are places you can learn stuff, like the section for actual coding things.Well, look at all of us, just sittin' here, on the forums, learning nothing.^^^^^^^^^^^^

It's probably the “social media-like” aspects like the forums that bring schools to block Scratch.

I mean, tumblr is also the hole from which most internet cancer claws its way into reality, so you cannot really blame them for blocking it. My school computers don't block Instagram,Deviantart,& Twitter.

I'm homeschooled. My own computer is my school computer.
Only 4GB of RAM. I can't even run Dolphin without it slowing to a crawl, and I'm trying to play Melee (which was released just a few months after the launch of the Gamecube).

Gives me repressed memories of “CyberSitter” which was installed on my laptop when I was thirteen, and my mom turned it on and it blocked every site that isn't related to the online school I went to, thus, isolating me from the entire internet. And I didn't have a cell phone back then.stupid iBoss SSO Integration filter
YEP. iBoss is the same thing I'm dealing with here. Actual news sites/resources for teachers are blocked but I can find any game I want on an “unblocked games” site. Makes sense to me.
That was because I was failing every class. But that's because I don't do well in an online school setting. Or…a school setting in general. I'm much better in a work setting.
My mom even took away my only source of music at the time, my MP3 player, because of it.
Thankfully, I was able to head back onto the internet during my transferring process, and I was able to happily graduate since then.

On my vocational tech computer, every social media site was blocked EXCEPT Reddit, so I was able to browse it when I was done with my work.
