Books similar to Diary Of A Wimpy Kid: The Topic
Japan Ai is based on something that actually happened, but it still reminds me of Diary Of A Wimpy Kid. It’s about a woman who goes to Japan with her friends. It’s a good book, and there’s this running gag where the main character is too tall to fit clothes, etc.

I read some of one of the books.

Would The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian count? It's an illustrated diary-style novel focusing on a Native American boy going to a school outside his reservation. Even though it's quite thoughtful, it's a teenagers' book and NOT for kids.

I think we were going to read that in seventh grade but the English teachers decided we weren’t interested in it

Origami Yoda is the best. I've read all of the books but Princess Labelmaker. You should go check it out, as each chapter is narrated by a different character, 2 of the main characters, Tommy and Harvey, make comments at the end of each chapter, and another main character named Kellen draws all over the chapters! It even has it's own website where you can share your own origami Star Wars creations!
I also forgot to mention Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie. I chose to read the book along with Shipwreck at the Bottom of the World and Out of My Mind for my summer reading. It's about an 8th grader who has been struggling with his social life ever since his little brother got leukemia. There's also a sequel which showcases his little brother in 8th grade called After Ever After. I wouldn't recommend these books to younger kids, though; Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie actually scared me because it showed me how scary leukemia can be, and After Ever After has a swear word in it.
I'm surprised no one's mentioned Captain Underpants. That was elementary school in a nutshell.

The despictions of leukemia aren't that bad.

I thought this topic was for Diary of a Wimpy Kid clones, not humorous books in general.

I mean big nate itself is a really similar book to diary of a wimpy kid. They're both in middle school and talk about their crushes as greg said in dog days and nate says in blast off and in a class by himself.
