hi, I think it would be nice if you had opacity (transparency) in the paint editor.

Ditto that! Ditto used Transform! Ditto transformed into the opacity suggestion! Ditto used Opacity Slider! It's super effective! LOL.

In other words, +1.

Thanks for the ride, Scratch Team and community! Unfortunately, the time has come for me to move on from Scratch, so I'll no longer be using the forums. Thanks again, and farewell!

…is often not enough. Sometimes you want something to stay transparent after the scripts have been stopped, or have multiple layers of diferrent transparencies in one costume. Stamp flattens it to Bitmap on the screen if it's in Vector, and you might want to use the ink layer for something else.

but if there was an opacity tool, you could have certain parts of the costume ‘ghosty’, not the whole sprite.

Exactly what I said, but simplified.

If you're using bitmap, then why can't you just use the paintbrush tool and choose the top right color?

That erases it completely. It's NOT semi-transparent.

Then couldn't you use white or whatever color the background is?

Because the background isn't always white, and what if a sprite goes behind the sprite in question? What if the background changes?

^ See the underlined portion.

But my question is how many times would a sprite go behind the sprite in question?

Sometimes you want that to happen, to make special effects, and when you have a gradient to the background color, it looks cruddy when, say, clones overlap the same costume. Again, the background could change, or what if you're using a photo, or a different picture, or how about using video blocks?

We still could use this. I'd like to integrate it into my featured project to improve sensing and make it look better. It would NOT look better with blue on it, because the bubbles would be opaque, covering up each other and the video in the background.

Currently, the only way to use transparency is to make an object 100% see-through or make it fade into transparency with a gradient. But what if we wanted a solid color about 50% transparent and not have it a gradient? I think this should be implemented. Say you have a stained glass window sprite. You want the windows to be somewhat transparent and not a gradient, and you want the window panes to be solid and non-transparent.

So what you're saying is a sprite that is already transparent, but without ghost effect and gradients? Seems good enough. I support.

You can do this if you import a bitmap image into the vector editor. Weird workaround, I know.

Hi again, Scratchers

Is there a chance to add a alpha channel in the drawing editor?
I already asked few months ago, but had no answer from Scratch team, I though they were very busy with the new Scratch site, and didn't want to insist too much. Now, I'd like to know.

Alpha channel is for removing all that is around an image, removing the background.
If you want to make animations, you have to have this kind of images.
The old scratch let it do, but the new scratch don't.
Please! Add it again!
When you use the painting bucket to fill with a color a zone, if there is alpha channel, you can remove easily the background. I'm sure not everyone has GIMP or photoshop to make that, it should be a default feature in scratch!

I'm not exactly sure what Alpha channel is supposed to be, but I do have enough experience with Bitmap images to know that it takes a human brain to distinguish backgrounds on a picture, and that a computer won't be able to sort it out.

What I think they should add for Bitmap editor is a fill sensitivity slider. It would make it so if you import a picture from the internet, you can use low sensitivity to recolor areas with gradients or pixel distortion, and high sensitivity for filling precise areas of close color.

Thoughts?

There is sort of a similar feature. Using the paint bucket, click the mouse several times within a second in one spot, and it will color over regions of similar color, and spread out. You'll have to be careful not to click too many times or else it colors over the part you don't want to mess with. But otherwise, it is an effective method to clear out regions with subtle changes in the color, which leave specs behind that are tedious to get rid of.

No, it was here before Scratch 2.0, they removed it with the new version, and it is one of the most used feature in GIMP.
When you do an image search with Google, select the “transparent” option (I think it's the same name in English, cause I don't use Google in English)
and you will see what I mean…
