The bootleg topic is for posting counterfeit/unlicensed products. However, some people started posting fails in generic, non-copyright-violating product, such as picture of a shirt with a weird message on it. Engrish pictures are included too, even though the Engrish topic was closed many moons ago.

I'm hesitant to say that those posts are offtopic and need to be in a separate topic, because the last time I tried to do that, they just excused that such topic wouldn't last a heartbeat.

Why not ask on the bootlegs topic?

I guess it depends, the Engrish topic is actually included in the bootlegs directory so I'm not necessarily sure, but I would think it's generally fine as long as the content in it isn't against the CGs and as long as actual bootlegs are actually being posted too.

The bootlegs topic itself generally isn't the most accurate on its bootlegs anyway- there's always been a lot of stuff that's more likely product fails, terrible licensed merch and fanmade/joke products. I think making a separate thread wouldn't work as you'd still get people posting non-bootlegs as bootlegs out of a lack of knowledge, plus the thread would probably be shut down as a dupe. Maybe the bootleg topics should change their names to accommodate this?

That's true. Amusing Duck, for instance, has been on the topic for a long time and I don't know if it's really an actual bootleg of anything. Also, if you look up “bootlegs” on Google, go to the bootleg subreddit, etc., there are probably a few general product fails as well.
