Chromes design is not the most modern or minimalistic compared to FireFox or Edge. And it seems a little odd that Google hasn't updated the design in a long time. But if u have chrome v.68 or later installed u can try out a new experimental design.

Just post this V link into your search bar and set the marked flag to Refresh.

chrome://flags/#top-chrome-md

Restart the browser and u will see a new, more modern design. If u prefer the old design just go to the link again and set the flag to Default.

I tried some themes on the new design and now my browser looks awesome.

I really like the material dark theme from Stanley Lim
If you want a lighter theme but not totally white then check out material gray theme.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I opened this using a Chrome OS device and there are SOO MANY SETTINGS.

Apparently, this experimental design is the new default design. This recently just happened.
To be honest, I don't like the search bar being gray, and now I have changed to the “Normal” design.
It's the design before the new one got implemented.

It looks like a knock off of Firefox quantum. My school has this as default in the computer labs.

I was thinking of it more as a knockoff of Firefox Aurora.
I'll stick with Firefox.
