OP, You can code this sort of thing- scratch really isn't made for this. It would probably lag the project-editor.
EDIT:
No support.

Support. Seems to me like an original idea that would be cool.Wow, this suggestion is really original! That's exactly what I mean! The shadows will be cast away from the sun because that's how shadows work!
Are you saying that the sun would make the sprites cast shadows? If so, I support if it's optional.

I’m in between supporting this: scratch does have many side view games, so a sun would add a graphical benefit. But also, it is just a graphical benefit so why should it be added? Scratch does already have a few graphic blocks (fisheye, tile, etc…) which are rarely used, but a sun would probably used much more. Otherwise, I don’t see a problem with this, maybe lag when calculating shadows?

But, the lag can't be too bad, can it? Calculators can calculate Pi with no lag, so it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Are we talking about sun effect blocks or not? Also, that topic said it can be shared with family, and all the users of this account are such close friends, we practically ARE.users of this accountShh shared accounts are discouraged by the ST

Support. But this isn't necessary. Someone below posted a workaround.
I've also heard somewhere that necroposting is allowed on the Suggestions forum, as long as it is important or it is a “Support”.
Please tell me if this is not correct

Oh well, this topic got necroposted
Semi Support, this would help new scratchers who don't know how to make shadows using clones

Semi Support, this would help new scratchers who don't know how to make shadows using clones
but because there is an easy workaround,
when I receive [Activate shadows v]It's a semi support
create clone of [Sprite1 v]
when I start as a clone
set [ghost v] effect to (0)
go to x: ((((Sun X) * (2)) - (Sun X)) / (3)) y: ((((Sun Y) * (2)) - (Sun Y)) / (3))

Well, this is an original suggestion. No, really. No support.
I've never seen anyone suggest this. I wonder about the possible difficulties in implementation, though…
I also don't think we need this all too much. If you really want shadow, you can make a second sprite (or even a clone of the original sprite) with a black costume follow the sprite around, at a position relative to the original.
No support, sorry.

Alright, I'm gonna be honest, kinda forgot about this suggestion. It's been about four years and I have some more to say about this.
I consider myself more mature now than I was when I ran a cringey my little pony roleplay account, and I probably have more common sense. Which I will proceed to use.
The only way anyone could really work around this is if we had a stretch/squish block, but even then, not too accurately. I could close the topic and link to the stretch/squish block topic, but I won't do that because this is a completely original suggestion.
Basically how this would work is just dynamic shadows. It could use raycasting or something, but that would probably be extremely laggy. I can't think of any other solutions to that.
This wouldn't be particularly useful, in my opinion. In response to past me, semi-support.

This is an interesting idea. If you're trying to make a Scratch project that looks really good, which is a very small category from my experience, this might be kind of useful. It's definitely unnecessary even by extension standards though. (I know all suggestions are unnecessary but like, can we agree there's a sliding scale to that? xor and exponents are definitely more “necessary” than this)
