A mouse free editor mode?
When I was working on scratch today, I came upon an annoying problem: having to repetitively move the mouse back and forth between variables and blocks and pretty much everything else. I then came upon the idea of a way to enable users (who prefer it) to code with scratch blocks, without the mouse!!! There are two points I have for this: 1. How would this work? Well, in Microsoft word, pressing alt allows you to press letters to enter the different menus. So why not add this to scratch. 2: In regular coding, you never need to use the mouse, and (in scratch) you could use arrow keys or other stuff to help you navigate the editor and drag blocks and the what not. Additionally, there are many ways that this could be implemented, so there is no need to go into the specifics on how it would work.
So, what do you think, why do you think this would be really helpful? If not (which I doubt), explain the problems. Thanks

anyways, i wouldn't see the point. the mouse pointer in the editor is what the thing was built around in the first place, so it really doesn't make sense to make a version that removes it

It could be a separate mode. Scratch more then just a block engine, it’s also a very simple coding engine that is able to help you learn techniques for actual coding. Therefore, a keyboard based mode wouldn’t be taking scratch in a direction not intended, but it would help some scratchers that would prefer this mode.

Bump, on a side note for people who never used Microsoft word’s mode: if there are more selections then letters in the alphabet, then selections will have something like “AG”, where pressing A then G will select that.

Bump, as I was scratching (IDK) I had to make a long physics block. This is a good example of the benefits of this because the screen could move as I make it so I don't have to add a block (and list blocks can really make blocks large), scroll, then add more. Really would have helped.

If I’m right, this is asking to make the blocks and menus of the current editor (or 3.0’s) able to be manipulated with a keyboard. I think that that is a good suggestion because it helps make the website to people who have disabilities and/or don’t have a mouse.

Exactly; the Tab, Enter, Esc, and Alt keys can also do wonders if you bother to use them.by not having one plugged in.how exactly would you use a modern computer without a mouse, may i ask? and/or don’t have a mouse.

[off topic rant about bad touchpads] Seriously, a touchpad is what you get when you smack a mouse with a rolling pin. Teribble, semimalfunctional junk that only meets minimal needs and uses, but is flat and stationary which is apparently good enough. [/off topic rant about bad touchpads] Although, there are a few good touchpads out there. Sometimes, keyboard manipulation can be better than touchpads; that depends on the application you’re using though.there's a wonderful invention we call the TOUCHPADhow exactly would you use a modern computer without a mouse, may i ask? and/or don’t have a mouse.

But anyway, a few more uses of this could be auto organizing you scripts and auto scrolling to center on what you are trying to focus on.
