Our Privacy Policy has been updated
Hi folks,
We’re updating our Privacy Policy today, hooray! We know you want to get back to creating things on Scratch, so we’ll keep this short.
We care a great deal about your privacy and security at Scratch. This update is just a few small changes to make our policies easier to understand, and to provide clarity on what data we collect and how that data is used. There are no changes to your account or how your data is being used in this update.
The highlights include:
The new Privacy Policy goes into effect today, May 23, 2018 and by continuing to use Scratch, you agree to this policy.
If you made it this far, congratulations, you get a cookie! Sorry, it’s still just a cookie for your browser and is totally not edible. We’ll work on making better cookies.
Scratch on!

There are no changes to your account or how your data is being used in this update.
The highlights include:
- Clarifying what deleting an account means
- Noting that our servers are located in the U.S.
- Providing a longer explanation of what cookies are (sadly, these cookies are not edible)
- Stating clearly that using the Scratch offline editor doesn’t give us the ability to access any projects or personally identifiable information
- More detailed explanations about what data we collect and what that data is used for.

For everyone wondering - this is due to new data protection laws in Europe - a lot of Scratchers are from the UK and other places in Europe, which is why this change has been made.

It's just a change to the privacy policy - as far as I'm aware this does not change anything to do with the usage of Scratch, it's just something Scratch has to do if they want to keep a big part of their userbase Awesome!

This is my signature. It's really not that good. I don't even know why you are reading it. It is pointless reading this, and yet, here you are, reading every single word of it. Just stop reading my signature and go on with your life. You are just wasting your time here. Why haven't you gone yet? I have repeatedly told you to leave. You must not be able to read. But wait, you are reading this, so you can read. That must mean you are ignoring me. I don't like being ignored, but if you are good at ignoring things, why is it so hard for you to ignore this signature. I'm getting tired of writing words to fill this signature, so you should just give me a break and stop reading.

That sounds great! I think updating the privacy policy is important, because it means that Scratch can still be fun, but safe at the same time!

Hmm, seems like a good ‘update’. Though the cookie not being edible is kind of disappointing.
