Thoughts on Thundercats: ROAR?

Personally, I think it's gonna be a slap in the face to long-time fans; in other words, it's more than likely going to be another Teen Titans: GO! considering the creators of TTG are behind it.

I've heard that the team actually seem pretty passionate about the original, unlike TTG, plus they aim to make it more focused on action despite it's obvious comedy intentions. As for the chosen style, that's just what's popular this decade; if you look back at history, every era of cartoons has had their own style, and none of them were ever amazing- the ‘calarts style’ as it's been nicknamed is just the look for the late 2010s.

I know, I just think it's probably worth giving it a chance before deciding “It is calarts style and bad” without even watching it like most people are doing right now. We've got a pretty bad culture with animation right now and I feel this attitude of dropping things before letting them establish themselves is a pretty big chunk of it.

Ive never watched either incarnation but I think this is kinda unnecessary because more recent one was already popular among fans of the original.

However just because something is unnecessary doesnt mean it's bad. See Spiderman: Homecoming for example.

I also dislike this trend of reboots and nostalgia appeal.

If they want another Thundercats show just renew the second one. But the main problem with that is they already revealed the direction the show was going to go in.

It doesn't look good, but people are overreacting. The new show existing doesn't do anything to the old one. You can still go and watch the old one if you want to watch Thundercats, it isn't being taken away from you. Who cares. People also overreact to Teen Titans Go.

Also, if you've ever unironically said things like “The Calarts style is ruining animation” and “This ruined my childhood”, I don't like you.

Mood tbh. People don't seem to understand that each era of cartoons has it's own style (our current one being the simpler, softer bodies and fluid animation) and that each generation of kids has their own interests and preferences in television. Regardless of your opinions on children's tastes right now, that's what sells. Plus, a lot of these people want jobs in the animation industry, which they're probably not going to get if their social media is just full of them badmouthing other cartoons.

Also, the more action-based previous reboot of Thundercats didn't do well financially- the fans might've liked it, but that doesn't mean that the actual target audience did.

If you want your Thundercats discussion to be taken seriously, please provide proof that you have a valid action figure collection as well as your age being above 30

People who say that are the people who overreact to the “Tumblr art style” and stuff. The Cal-arts style ain't my favorite but it isn't “ruining” animation. I think this show looks rather trivial but I'm not going to say that it's ruining a franchise.

Honestly I think part of the problem with the other one was that it had the wrong demographic

I think people are overreacting. The team said they were going to stick to the source material (which I have not seen) and the main creator watched the show as a child, according to an interview. All of this backlash and attacking the creator doesn't seem justified to me.

I agree with you there. What I don't like about it is the obnoxiousness that the trailer gave off and people have pointed out some animation errors such as this:

Just seems kinda lazy

I hope stuff like that won't pop up everywhere in the show and if a goof like that does appear maybe it won't be noticeable at normal speed and the animations only leave them in because they didn't spot the error.

As for the actual animation we've seen so far, it looks like there was at least some effort behind it (to me, at least).
