I've been looking through archive.org, and I saw some cool pictures on pre-2007 versions of the Scratch website. It's made me curious about what Scratch was like pre-1.0, and I was wondering if anyone still had some of these very old versions on their hard drives. It looks like there was a beta that you could sign up for in November 2006, but of course, I never even knew what Scratch was back then. Maybe someone here did.

I have every iteration, starting with v1.0. I do not have anything pre-1.0. Maybe I'll share them sometime, if I can find a good place to host.

Oh noes! Sorry, it doesn't actually have those versions (it does have some cool other versions as well as !!! an early version of NetScratch.

Maybe if a lot of people see this the Scratch Team will release them. I LOVE THESE OLD VERSIONS. MUST USE THEM. xD

The first time I made my account was in 2008, but then made a new account in 2011, this one. I joined when scratch version 1.2.1 just came out, and I loved it. Sadly, I don't have any pictures to show you, but I did find the exact date in which I joined on archive.org.

I wasn't so active on my other account, and refused to make anything scared of the internet (we were all like that at one point ). What I find weird, and still find weird, is that back then, if you released a project, and it got onto the front page, you would celebrate, then not make anymore projects. But nowadays, people are inspired to make new projects after getting fame.

Let me explain this better: Back then, users would release a project, and hope it gets onto the front page. If you got lucky, and it got top loved or something, it was very rare for another one of your projects to get famous as well. The person who changed this was a user by the name of “Astro947.” When he got onto the front page, he didn't want to quit or give up, rather he made better projects. So, therefore, more of his projects got onto the front page. So, in other words, he was the first really famous user.

There was another user, by the name of archmage. He got onto the front page a lot, but wasn't super famous.

Astro created the whole idea of animation being popular. So, whenever you look at the front page now, and see an animation, just thank astro.

Well, I joined in 2009, so I remember most of that. But I forgot about my Scratch account for five months after that, so… yeah. I made an archive of Scratch versions I've found scattered around the internet, but there's nothing before 1.0.

I joined in August 2007. I remember it was a lot easier to get attention on your projects (especially with the newest user section of the front page). I also remember when lists were a brand new thing.

I must get my hands on these old versions! If only I could script well with the new, maybe I could script just as well or better with the old… xP

But anyway, I was around Scratch back when that whole Doody fiasco happened. Remember that? I sorta do. I also remember archmage, ffred, AddZero, dapontes, Jens… Basically a little bit of the Scratch oldies, the veterans. Let me tell ya: 1.3 and 1.4 were fire. Things have sort of mellowed out in a way with 2.0. Back then, people were always charting new territory with their stuff. The socialization aspect wasn't quite as sophisticated or complex as 2.0, but it worked for what it needed to do. Nowadays, I'm just looking back through my nostalgic lens at how much fun I had with the old Scratch and the old community. It's like I'm playing a completely different ball game with 2.0 (everyone's amazing at vector art, quality projects are plentiful but sometimes hard-to-find, I'm definitely older than much more of the Scratch userbase than I was in 2009)…

Yeah! Nostalgia has its ways…

But no, really… I must get old Scratch again…
