See inside code blocks

I have read your website and understand that your goal is to help people learn to code. I know that each block has code inside of it so I think that you should make it so that people can see the code that makes it run and experienced coders can even learn to write there own block. I have had this idea for quit some time and have had no idea how to contact you. I will email this to you multiple times and comment it on pages of people who work at scratch.

See inside code blocks

Interesting idea - but I'm not sure how this would work. Scratch is an interpreted language - the Flash player reads the blocks and then runs various lower-level Flash routines to make the project work. There may not be a simple relationship between any given Scratch block and the Flash routines that end up being run.

The reason that scratch can't be converted to code is because Scratch does not just go straight down to code. For example, in Flash, you won't find an event saying “When I receive …”. Scratch as a programming language is just Scratch, not anything else.

If you want to see the code for each block, go to Scratch 1.4 and see the Squeak source code for each block.
