The Ultimate Guide: How To Create a Role-Playing Collaboration
This guide is a sequel to @the_force's The Ultimate Guide to Role-Playing, found in the stickies of this forum. This is no way, in any form, meant to replace the_force's topic, and is just a continuation, with some side notes by me, XxOwl31xX. Oh, and also @makethebrainhappy made a guide like this one, but I'm adding more details and antidotes.
Welcome to Role-Playing!
I assume you know enough about role-playing (aka RPing) to come and look at this guide on how to create a collaboration based on a story or encourage others to join your RPC (role-playing collaboration). Many people have created their own stories, but others are just fan versions of popular stories. But, for those of you have no idea about what RPing is, I'll give a quick definition from @the_force's guide:
The first question one might ask is: what are RP's? A logical question, and the one I'll answer first in this guide.
RP stands for Role-play(ing), which is where members act as a character and make choices regarding their character's actions and dialogue, interacting with other people in a form of story. Characters are normally fictional and original, which means they're completely made up. RPing is like acting – you just pretend to be someone else, and try to make choices by thinking as your character, not as yourself.
Okay, now that we have that over with, we can move on and find out why people love to role-play. Many RP because they have nothing else to do with their time, and others have other reasons. But, we can say the core reason is because people enjoy it and it is fun. (Again, this is from Force's guide.)
Now, onto the actual guide for role-play collaboration creating.
Ground Rules
1. You can't role-play on the Scratch Forums, so you need to RP in a studio. And, it's also a lot better that way, even with the 500-character comment limit, you can add projects and thicken the plot of your RP world. More on that later in this guide.
2. Don't spam Scratchers when asking them to join! This alienates them, and if they have a large follower base, it will alienate their followers as well. The best thought-out strategy leads into my next section…
Creating a Forum Topic!
When creating an RP, a forum topic is the BEST idea to promote your RP and also to give more of an idea of the story.
The Collaboration forums are the best place to put it, since we have no dedicated RP forums and the ST doesn't want to add one in as of now. You guys are going to thank me for this one. Mostly, the forums are quite nice and easy to use, and there are many shops in the Requests forums that specialize in BBCode once you create your core ideas. You guys don't have to worry about the nice looks, as long as the core idea is present. Brains has a TL;DR version of this here:This is not required, but it helps to advertise your RP and find new members to join. Make sure to have your backstory and a link to the studio in the first post. This is also where all team coordination will take place. It also helps you keep track of everything about your RP.
Some RPs don't have forums, rather, they exclusively operate out of studios, even projects for certain events! You can create a sign-up in a project to see a character in more detail, and oftentimes they have large remix trees to show how many members they have.
Studio RPing!
Everyone loves studios, right?
