Unlikely Bands That You Like?
I actually heard “Smells Like Nirvana” at the bowling alley once. There's this obnoxious entertainer who abominates the original version of that song and strips it of it's “rockin'-song-i-miss-that-is-an-epic-throwback-no-lie” status by singing “She looks like yeh nana”.

I know it's a one-in-a-million chance with such a specific thread, but this is a duplicate. (Original)Cool, merged.

Right now, I'm borderline obsessed with this really unnecessarily edgy intense screamo band called Alesana. Which is odd for me, considering I usually gravitate towards electronic, most of which is pretty chill. (Vaporwave, Synth-pop, Ambient, etc.)

I'm currently going through my big band/swing jazz phase, so no one expects me to listen to music from the 40's era. I used to listen to a lot of techno and EDM, but jazz band changed my music taste.

I love Clean Bandit. I can listen to one of their songs and it feels like 10 years has gone by! It's like I'm travelling through time, but in reality I'm suffering unspeakable pain

Honestly thought I'd find Joy Division really dirgey and insufferably boring and Ian Curtis' voice grating, but it's a pleasant surprise to know I'm wrong on both counts.

I definitely wasn't planning on getting into Nirvana as much as I've happened to. I wasn't too crazy about Bleach* the first time that I heard it (although I still found it decent and I like it a lot better now) and I figured that since they're often remembered more for their image than their music that the actual substance would be sub-par and they'd shape up to be one of those sacred cows that doesn't hold up, but they've become one of my favourite bands now.
*First album of theirs I listened to. My first listen of Nevermind came later and that got me hooked.

This is another “I didn't listen to them in the right way” story rather than an actual left-field choice, but hey, whatever:
R.E.M. has definitely made a huge upgrade from “kinda cool a bit” to absolute favourite in the span of a few weeks. When I first made an attempt to listen to them, I didn't do any hefty research and I figured that their most commercially successful albums were going to be the best general representation of what they were about (this is a fairly safe guess I make with a lot of artists), so I decided I'd listen to a trilogy of Out Of Time, Automatic For The People and Monster and see if any of those tickled my fancy. I liked them all well enough, but I didn't really get what the fuss was about.
A while later, I browsed a forum thread that touched upon the R.E.M. discography and it told me something completely different: it's their earliest material that's by far and away the best. I decided to listen to Chronic Town to see what was so different and the stark contrast of its cryptic post-punk style hit me like a brick. It intrigued me enough that I chose to listen to the rest; Murmur and Reckoning bowled me over and the rest of the I.R.S. albums were a hit with me too. Green was the final confirmation that I'd found a new band to love.
I've since found stuff to enjoy in all of their albums (quite an achievement considering how divisive their discography is) and the bridge has been linked regarding those three albums I'd listened to at first.

Panic!
I was raised with stupid bubblegum pop. When I first heard High Hopes, I liked it, but felt weird listening to it. I wanted to be an ‘on fleek trendsetter popular mainstream kid’, not a ‘weird emo’. It was only until I was fed up with all the songs downloaded on my phone that I went out and discovered more. I found forgotten faves, new classics, Hardwell, and old Panic! Some time later, I realised how ‘different’ I was to society, and thought ‘Do you wanna be a pampered trendsetter, or live a life you ACTUALLY want? Since then, I’ve significantly listened to Panic! more.
