The Ultimate Scratch 3.0 Block Style Protest Megathread
CRITICISM TIME:I agree!
I miss when Scratch was for everyone. Scratch 3 seems like it's moving the target audience to toddlers. They made the blocks annoyingly flat and vibrant. They hide complex features like pen and custom blocks. They make costume creation worse then it has ever been. I don't get it. ST seem to refuse to add a thin blocks mode, and only made the blocks huge just because a few people that use scratch on tablet may need them that way. Scratch's direction with Scratch 3 looks awful in my opinion.
Honest criticism that hasn't been dumbed down as not to offend anybody. Please fix this ST.
Scratch is designed as an easy to use programming language accessible to people new to programming including children and young people.
This is not the same thing as a toddler's website/program where they can “make their own little games and explore their imaginative side!”

Hey, guys, remember this fun little snippet from Lightnin from around 7 years ago that's still pinned?

And now they're just trying to make it insultingly easy for seemingly no reason other than to turn away advanced users and attract toddlers. I'm sticking with the 2.0 Editor, thanks.
Also, this is the first time I say it, but thanks for removing the Discuss button, Scratch Team. At least this place won't be nuked by children.

The text should be more bold, so that you can actually read it zoomed out. Here's the difference:I need to zoom when I'm working on projects really late at nightAlso, toddlers can easily program with the normal 2.0 blocks without any problems. My cousin is 6 and can program without any problems.CRITICISM TIME:I wholeheartedly agree. When Scratch 3.0 comes out, I might just stick to the Discussion Forums, the only part of Scratch that won't be renovated into the hunting ground of toddlers, a demographic who most likely won't know anything about Scratch in the first place. Let the Dora & Diego projects begin.

Come to think of it, shouldn't we just be able to zoom out and make the blocks smaller? I'm going to see if that's in the preview
Normal
Zoomed out once
That works for me
Though if I'm going to be honest, it's really not that much bigger than what we have now. I don't get why people are so against Scratch 3.0. It will take a lot of getting used to, yes, but then it will feel normal.
Did users feel like this with the transfer to the 2.0 editor?

I totally agree. Scratch 3.0 doesn't have to look like this. These blocks are very difficult to use, and most people already think Scratch is made just for children to “play” with code - but you can make complex projects with it and it's a great way to code for people of every age! This new design with its huge blocks looks like it is really made for children only. And this isn't necessary. It's true that you need bigger blocks for mobile devices, but we don't need such big blocks for PCs and Notebooks.Yeah. I can just imagine looking at a complex pen project in the 3.0 editor and gouging my eyes out.

Hey everyone!! Upload a detailed project of yours (with detailed graphics!!) and notice how blurry and terrible it looks!!
It really is unbelievable how much the graphics are ruined in the transition between 2.0 to 3.0!!!

Have a look at this link
https://medium.freecodecamp.org/scratch-has-a-marketing-problem-f84626bd18ef
It basically talks about how Scratch is becoming unappealing to older kids, teens and adults because it looks as though it's a little kid's language even though it isn't.

You can't skip a generation in each number of the generation. 2.0 can go to 2.1 or 3.0, depending if it is a program redo or just an update. In this case, it is going to 3.0.you are a geniusThen where is Scratch 2.1?Stop Scratch 3.0!!!!!!Uhhh, do you just want to live in this generation forever? where is scratch 2.1?
(They may look like decimals, but the periods are just breaks between important version iterations. Usually first is main version, second is feature version, and third is bug version. Scratch doesn't have the second one, just the first and third.)

i did try it and i don't like the big blocks this is what it could be like for PC
when green flag clickedbut its so big like 2x he size of scratch 2.0 blocks
move (10) steps
when green flag clickedthats what its like but only 1 block so its should have a PC way to not have them super big
when green flag clicked
move (10) steps
move (10) steps
think [just a idea make a PC way to not have big blocks] for (3.5) secs

I think we should keep laptops as 2.0, but it would be nice if we could do scratch on tablets, and update them to 3.0.

Thanks for all the input on this.
Since this topic seems to have taken on a tone more of a rant than of constructive suggestion, I think it's time to close it.
The concerns about the legibility of the blocks at different zoom levels have been passed on to the developers for them to consider.
