European General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) and Scratch.

On the 25th May 2018, new data protection laws come in across the whole EU.

To enable my pupils to continue using their Scratch accounts, I need to know that you are fully compliant with the new regulations.

Is there any documentation stating that you are?

Many thanks!

Okay I took a while to try to figure out what this is and if Scratch will be affected (I'm from the US).
I don't know right now if Scratch is compliant, but I'm pretty sure they are or will be by the deadline. As for where this might be stated, I'll look around to see if there is something like that on the site.

This is a problem though as a lot of Scratch's traffic probably comes from schools in the EU

There used to be an European site, but it got closed due to bugs (perhaps it couldn't keep up with the main site). I remember someone else asked about this too. I'll ask Paddle2See

I don't think those are in any way comparable. Data Protection laws (to my knowledge) refers to laws ensuring your online privacy.

Yeah, it's the opposite really. It would only apply to schools. It is still bad though because if Scratch doesn't sort it out, schools in the UK (a big market for Scratch) won't be able to use Scratch until 2019 (when the UK leaves the EU)

Almost a month on - Do you have an update on the release of this GDPR statement yet? Search results on the Scratch website do not bring up any content related to GDPR and a Google search only brings up this thread.

Thanks

Don't worry; Scratch is very careful about data and will comply with the new laws.

Hi there, please keep in mind the only person who has posted on this thread who works at Scratch is Paddle2See, this is the community forums. However, they have said they are working on it and it will be OK soon.

Another UK teacher chiming in, we have been told we cannot use websites with our students that are not GDPR compliant. This is a huge deal for us as most of our coding curriculum is delivered using Scratch. Please can we get more information on this.

All 100 schools in the Edinburgh area have been told they cannot use Scratch, and I imagine many other local authorities in Scotland have done the same. Come on MIT - please get this resolved ASAP!

Please don't necropost. It clutters up the discussion forums. If you have questions, please make a new topic. Reported for closing
