I'm very upset. How are people going to view my projects? what if they're were four main things? I myself have three main characters, but what if I want to tag it christmas? (if it's a christmas project) or halloween? what if I wanted to tag the music? or maybe my username?

Maybe any past 3 would require moderator approval? And one user can only suggest one tag at a time? Would still get annoying for the mods though.

Spam was never that big of an issue on scratch all this is doing is making lesser known scratchers harder to get noticed.

I think a limit isn't that bad of an idea but only three? maybe if the limit was 10 or 15 I would understand, but three? ridiculous.

Well, small limit as it may be, it's not uncommon to find a limit of three tags in similar cases. For one thing, three tags for posts is part of network etiquette, and I've seen cases where the writer was limited to using only three tags when licensing of publishing a paper.

Typically it doesn't make sense to tag a project with your username since those will naturally appear anyway when searching. Stuff that appears in the project notes (like music, which really should be credited in the Project Notes) don't need to appear in the tag as well. What you want to do is use tags that reveals something about the project that might not be apparent. This typically would be the type of project it is (game, animation, etc.), and any two other words that immediately come to mind with the project.

To give an example using your latest project, I probably would just tag it with “announcement” and “animation”. I'd get rid of “waffle” since there's nothing in the project about waffles, and remove the “linkin park” tag because Linkin Park can be credited in the notes. The “atticorpse” tag is fine in this case since you have extra space for one more tag and only one character, but a new viewer might not know who atticorpse is and will not make the connection that the character's name is mentioned in the tag section - it might be better to mention the character's name in the project notes instead .

Nope. We wouldn't want to do that. After all, we're donating our time and effort for this.

This is a good idea but if it was up to me, I would increase the tag limit maybe to around 6.
3 is extremely limited considering one is automatically something like “game”.
