Bump entry 44: Video games as a medium.

I believe that video games is a medium just like how books and movies are. However games have something that no other medium has, the player can chose what they want to do. This allows for experiences that no other medium can give well. I enjoy video games for their stories. What sets this apart from other mediums is that you are the one who is doing things. What better way to show something is hard than to make the level very hard. I tend to get attached to my characters in RPGs without set characters such as Mitopia and Pokemon. This is because I spent so much time training them, fighting with them, and I know that if I erase the save I will never see them again. This gets me feeling closer to characters with little personality than any other medium can ever do because I spent time with them. When telling a story in a game you don't even need any dialog. I remember a flash game called loneliness where it managed to make me feel sad even without any text and having it's graphics be no better than squares and gradients. Because you are the one doing things I feel that games have more impact than other mediums. The best games in the medium have both great gameplay and story. Without a story I care less about the game(the game I love that has the least story out of all the games I love is Pony Island). Without good gameplay the player will stop being engaged and be frustrated that they can't speed through the game faster(I'm looking at you grinding). I'm not really sure where this is going so I guess this is all for this bump entry, bump you next time!

Here is a bump for the beginning of the day. It is such a beautiful day today, it is cloudy. So that's a perfect reason to review hours long Scratch projects, or give ideas for detailed stories, or something else my shop has to offer! Anyway that's all for this minibump, bump you next time!

Here is a bump for the night. I have my cat with me. Though sometimes writing these bump entries are hard. I could write about shop activity however there is nothing new to bump about. I could bump about game helping stuff however I'm not sure what to bump about and I need ideas for it. It's not like this shop has some mystic lure… wait a minute I could. I was just about to say how bumping this topic is different from the SQ2(I know I will drive someone mad by not knowing what that means) topic and I can't make lore for shops until I remembered that I have seen offsite shops to that. So I shall try to make a lure for this shop! This shop already gives out detailed reviews and ideas, why not have a detailed lore to. The best part is that it is completely unnecessary! Anyway that's all for this minibump bump you next time!

Bump entry 45: lore: The creation of Neverending dreams
Okay first of all I want to make this clear, even though some of the characters in this lore share names and appearances with some of the SQ characters this shop' cannon and the Slimeith's quest cannon are two different cannons. Okay now with that out of the way let me tell you the epic story of this shop's opening.

Many years ago two races ruled the earth, humans and monsters. One day the humans declared war. In the end monsters lost and 7 humans sealed them away with a magic spell. This story takes place many years after these events in a completely different location.

A bunny named ACottontail had made a game. ACottontail wanted feedback on the game, so they got reviews on the game. Reading the reviews ACottontail noticed something, they neglected to call any of the characters by their name and they didn't find any of the obvious to find unused content. The unused conent was so easy to find. You just had to go into a cutscene, upgroup it. Go into the main character , upgroup it. Go into their bracelet, upgroup it. Go into a charm on it, upgroup it, and you would find a hidden message that said “hi”. Outraged by the lack of quality ACottontail decided to open their own shop to give out reviews with the amount of detail they deserve. ACottontail build the shop with a few broken laws of physics and help from her friends. Vedrew a Vearus who contributed the fact that he was told about the idea. Tracy a cat who contributed moral support and disrac… hey look Tracy is over there. And she is sleeping right over there so cutely. Aww, wait what was I talking about again?

After hours of hard work the shop was made. When trying to register the shop there was already a shop owner named ACottontail. Annoyed, ACottontail decided to open up the shop under the pen name Muellly. That name was accepted. ACottontail hung a picture of a pixel heart in the back of the shop to make an Undertale reference, and then the shop was ready to be opened!

Why don't you make a series of math tutorials on the various operation blocks Scratch has. You should explain the non-Scratch math of the block, how the block works in Scratch then how you can use it in a Scratch project/ ideas for Scratch projects to make with it in it. For addition you could add points, for subtraction you could subtract health. You could even give ideas for how to combine multiple things into one project. For example you could make a puzzle project where you have to switch between addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to collect numbers in a certain order in order to get to a number. If you look at all of the math operator blocks you have addition, subtraction, multiplication,division, greater than, less than, equals, mod, round and all of the drop down options in sqrt to make projects about.

You can also think about what you are doing and have done in school. You can make educational projects based on what you have learned. You can also try looking at educational websites and make projects about any interesting topics you find on there.

Currently, ScratchNetwork has been in development for nearly two months and contains nearly 2000 lines of code, all written by me, @myed. It is still in BETA so all the screenshots won't reflect the final version.

How it works
There are 4 different roles. Curator, Trusted Curator, Moderator and Admin.

• Curator - These users can add their projects or posts but it is expected they find other Scratchers projects, studios and shops and post them to the network. Curator posts need to be approved before they are shown publicly.Please note that you have to be promoted from a normal user to a curator by a moderator or admin. Just ask on their Scratch Profile.
  
• Trusted Curator - These users can approve posts to be released to the network and can also submit a “Priority Report” which sends me an email instead of a report going to a moderator. Note that anybody logged in can report a post.
  
• Moderator - These users can edit, delete and modify posts. They can also promote and demote users.
  
• Admin - These users can ban users and have full control of moderation.
  

They also get badges next to their username on the network.

Bump entry 47:Tips on making talking scenes
Have you ever made a scene where one or more sprites talked using talk blocks? Well I have some tips to make the process easier. When making these I tend to make a single script that has all the dialog in the scene and the cues. At the beginning of the dialog I put a letter for which character is talking followed by what they say. I then copy and paste the script into all the sprites that are in the scene then edit it with all the other necessary scripts and it cuts down time a lot from having to make sure all the scripts in all the sprites have the same waits. another tip is to make the conversation go forward by pressing a button. Unless you want to control the specific timing to make more of an impact this method allows the timing to be good for everyone. An example of what a script using these methods would look like is:

say [A: This is some text.]
press button ::custom
say [*character B walks in*]
say [B: This is what another sprite says.]
press button ::custom

The original script pretty much looks like that but shows the whole scene. When putting it in other sprites I remove the say blocks that is not said by the sprite and I remove the letter: from them. I also replace the say blocks with ** in them with the actions that are in them. I hope these tips make making scenes in games a little easier for everyone. Genre of project: It's a maze game
Characters in project: I'm not really sure. That's part of what I want an idea on.
Any ideas you already have for your project: Themed around the shape of a Scratch block

In Scratch's code there is someone who represents each of Scratch's block categories. They have all gotten along rather well making sure that project's code runs smoothly. However one day the peace is upset then Hacked(who is red) shows up. Motion thinks that hacked is evil and decides to defeat him. Hacked stops Motion by setting up various barriers to prevent him from getting to Hacked.

Custom tells Motion that if he wants to get to Hacked Motion has to find switches to turn off the gates. Motion sets off into the maze to find the switches in order to get to Hacked to defeat him. Motion then sets off in the maze to get to certain points to turn off the gates. Though out the maze Motion runs into control who wants to sell him stuff. If you have any currency or a shop in your maze game this is where to put it. If you don't have one this is the chance to set up some humor in the middle of the maze. At one point Motion comes across an empty baby pool that says property of Control on it. Control goes up to motion and says that Motion could drown or fall to his doom in the baby pool. Control offers to sell Motion a bridge to place down(made of control blocks of course) to help. Motion thinks this is a great deal, buys it, and says how he can always count of Control to sell him stuff to keep him safe. Latter a similar situation occurs however instead of a baby pool it's a slightly darker than normal area and Control sells a flashlight.

On one of the switches Motion sees Looks guarding it. Looks asks Motion if they have cleaned up *area in world* yet. Motion wonders what looks is talking about. Looks says how Motion always leaves messes and wonders when Motion will clean up *area in world* from when he made a mess of it a while ago. Motion has a sweat drop moment and Looks proceeds to battle him. Look's battle is in a maze with a ton of similar looking switches. The battle ends when Motion steps on the correct switch. Looks says oh well then leaves.

When Motion gets to the last switch he sees that it is guarded by Variable. Variable will not let Motion pass unless he beats her in battle. Variable's battle is a maze with various buttons scattered around and variables showing. Motion has to travel though the maze and press buttons to lower Variable's health to zero without lowering his own to zero. There are color coded buttons to attack, raise defense and raise attack. After Variable is defeated she says that she let Custom down.

After flipping the last switch Motion goes to the gate and sees Custom. Motion asks why she hired Variable to guard the switch. Custom says that she didn't and shows Motion a secret passageway to avoid the traps leading into the (fort?) Hacked is in. Being gullible Motion takes the passageway that turns out to be a trap. Custom admits that she asked Variable to guard the switch and says that she can't believe anyone would have actually fallen for the secret path trap.

Motion travels though one last maze to get to Hacked. Motion encounters Hacked and Motion says that he will take Hacked down. Hacked asks if Motion would rather talk things out. Motion says that he will not listen to the evil tricks that are being used on him. They fight in a boss battle. After Hacked loses he asks why things have to be this way. Motion says because Hacked is evil. Custom barges in and yells for them to stop.

Custom yells at Motion to stop jumping to conclusions and give Hacked a chance. Motion replies but he's evil. Hacked says that he understands and says that he will leave if others don't want him to be around. He just wanted to meet the other categories, Pen and Operators were pretty nice, and asks Custom to tell them that they can find him in the outskirts if they ever want to see him again. Motion is shocked and mutters so Hacked is not evil? then who is? Motion looks over at Custom and relies she was the villain here. She tricked him and set others up to stop him.

Custom tells Motion that there is no villain here. Not everything is black and white but a lot of gray. Motion says that he is the hero. Custom points out that he never cleaned up *area in world*. Motion is confused however says that he thinks he just learned a lesson. Motion offers to get to know Hacked.

A few weeks latter it cuts to Motion talking to Hacked and Custom in *area in world*. Motion is cleaning it up as he is talking. Motion and Hacked are now friends with Custom tolerating Motion. The end.

Here are the characters:

Motion
Personality: An energetic determined category who is ready to save the day. Motion is friendly towards everyone who he thinks is not evil. Motion can come off as annoying and childish to others. Motion likes to help others, and is very gullible.

Custom
Personality: Custom is a mischievous jokester category. She acts nice to everyone, even those she can't stand, so they don't suspect anything bad from her. She is willing to give anyone a chance before passing a final judgement is made. Does not believe in dualism.
Backstory: In past experiences with Motion Custom has found him very annoying. One day she found Hacked. The two of them became friends. When wanting to introduce Hacked to the other categories she warned him about Motion who might attack Hacked because Motion may think Hacked is evil. She came up with the plan for the gates and switches.
Notes: Try to make her seem friendly with something slightly off until Motion gets to the gate after flipping all of the switches.

Hacked
Personality: He wants others respect and tries to appear edgy because of that. This also makes him feel braver. Hacked questions whether he even belongs with the other categories or not. He is shy about trying new things however once he is in them he tries to hide his shyness.
Backstory: He was created from users hacking in blocks for their Scratch projects. He stumbled around in Scratch's coding, lost, confused until Custom found him. They became friends. After a while Custom wanted him to meet the other categories except Motion. He went along with the plan.
Notes: Try to make him look intimidating and evil until the revel

Control
Personality: A salesman. He is always trying to get categories to buy his stuff. He loves to convince others by card stacking the pluses of his products. He has nothing against scamming others.

Looks
Personality: Looks like things clean. Looks is a pessimist and tends to be bored most of the time. Looks has a tendency to hold grudges over a long period of time.
Backstory: A while ago Motion was at a party in *area in world*. Motion partied hard and left quite a mess. Looks asked Motion to clean it up. Motion said he would however he never got around to doing it. To this day Looks holds a grudge on Motion.

Variable
Personality: Variable loves to work. She always has to be working on something or she feels unconformable. Variable likes doing her job of working with variables and thinks that the more variables there are, the better. She likes to mislead others that using 20 variables for something is better than lists so she has more to do. Variable has a tendency of taking on more than she can handle in fear that she won't have anything to do otherwise.
Backstory: The day was going terribly slow for variable. She needed something to do. Custom was looking for other categories to protect the switches. Custom asked Variable to do her a favor and Variable agreed as it was a chance to use variables.

Clarence OS version 2.0 Pre-release 10.5.3
Opening: I like how you made the opening look like a computer startup. However is that box with red, blue, black and yellow rectangles suppost to show up for a second?
Boot: I like how you allow people to chose between 3 colors. Maybe you should add more. The blue looks really light to me, it almost looks white.

Desktop: On the desktop I see a text file and a trash, well trash/. I see a yellow arrow that opens up plugins. I have zero idea what any of them mean. I open up the start button that I saw pop up for a brief second during the intro. I see the Seconds, Minutes and Hours as sliders. I don't know why you made them sliders if they just go back to where they were originally but they are fun to play around with. For some reason whenever I move my mouse off the bottom right screen it says how to turn on edit mode however it doesn't when I move it off the top left screen. Plugin template nicely rainbowly glows when I turn it on. I like how you can move the welcome window, though when you do what is on it goes blank.

Command prompt: I keep getting no such command except for when I write text(which I learned from the user guide).0., then text slowly, glitchily prints out at the top of the screen. I don't really understand what it is suppost to do.

Music player: Plays a single song. I wish there was more of a selection. The only song there is has an award silence at the beginning and the drumming feels like it is drowning more out that it should. I like how you allowed the window to be minimized and play in the background. I also like the fact that pressing X stops the music like you are existing out of a program.

System info: I don't know what anything is suppost to mean on the first page. I guess I have a plugin template and Satellite is at version 1.0 however I have no idea what either of those mean. On the play page there are some quotes. I guess this OS was too spooky for slg55.

System monitor: I am not sure what this is but I guess it is for keeping tract of lag.

Notes: Notes is pretty nice. It is a list so you can actually export and import it to your computer. I recommend adding a small block of directions to the blank area left of the list so people can clear the list without losing the instructions then forgetting how to do something.

Internet game thing: I get an error. Must be a wip game.

Web browser: Everything thing not a site or unregistered. Nice to know I have a large variety of sites to browse.

Website maker: So on the side I can flip between Scratch's costumes. I can't do anything with them so I feel like I am missing something. dove2 and dove2-a blends in with the background.

Alarm clock: It was nice how you made the right side flash during the alarm. The sound it made was okay.

Settings: This is just volume right now. I suggest adding the option to change the background color of the desktop in it. I see more settings in the context menu sprite but I have no idea how to get to them.

Refresh Desktop Icons: Does exactly what it says.

Lock: I like how it asks for a password your first time. The Locked screen has a nice transition however the screen it's self looks bland.

Shut down: Stops everything and goes to a black screen. There is a power button so I press it. It boots up with old logo for the win. This time I click on Advanced mode.

Advanced mode: It looks like a the Command prompt. There is no such command for everything. I read the manuals and I learn it is for enabling and disabling plugins. I do not get the point of this as you could do that with the yellow arrow, and I still have no idea what any of the plugins do. I turn on edit mode. I don't understand what it does so I force shut down the system… except when I pressed R+B it did nothing so I press the green flag.

Visuals: The visuals are okay however the bitmap drawings and text look rough. I recommend remaking them in vector. I like how you made little upper bar things on all of the applications on the computer have an X to close them. However some applications such as alarm, music player have the X and the minimize go into the window. The text that prints out in Command prompt looks really unorganized with random spacing, bolding and some letters running into each other.

Glitches: I think Start showing up for a split second when pressing the green flag was a glitch. When hovering over Trash/ and text file the text saying what they are always shows, even if another window is on top of them. The same thing happens with minimized tabs. Start and the yellow arrow are booth present in Website maker. If you have music player in a tab then open it from the start and close it the tab will still be open despite the music stopping.

Splashes: I like how you made several splashes on startup. I don't really get the point of allowing the first and second costume to be selected since they do not have any splash text on them. Clarence OS is mostly compatible with touch screens except for in notepad, advanced mode and Command prompt. It is such a shame that the internet game things are still a wip.

Overall: I am confused on what I am suppost to do here. I am not sure what to do here, and I don't understand what most of the things are suppost to do. I never really understood the point of OSes on Scratch and I'm not sure if I ever will. I give Clarence OS a 4.9/8 because I feel like you have a lot but I just don't understand it. I give it a Stares rating because I had no idea what I was doing but that never frustrated me.

Bump entry 48: Got some orders
After about a month of inactivity in this shop I finally got some orders! There is a comic that explains my reaction perfectly. After that order for an idea I got another order for an idea, a story idea, which is what I do best. Coming up with that idea is fun. After that I got an order for a review. I didn't understand the project to well but I could tell that there was a lot of hard work put into it. For some reason I really want to review some credits right now. Still how many people will review credits if they aren't asked to? Am I one of the few people on Scratch that really care about credits in something or have I just not seen the community that cares about games having good credits yet?
