Improve compatibility on profile picture gifs
So I've just changed my profile picture to a new animated one. I would like to make some suggestions on the compatibility of profile picture GIFs.
1. Change the file size limit to 5 MB
My previous animated GIF profile picture (I changed it again) I had to compress it so much that it looked horrible! It would be great for a higher limit.
2. Fix GIF speed
My profile picture isn't supposed to go this slow. In some places it appears fine but in most places it's extremely slow.
3. Allow for use of profile pictures hosted by cubeupload
If suggestions 1 and 2 are not possible, at least allow an option for profile pictures hosted on cubeupload. This would take the hard work from the Scratch servers.
4. Fix GIF transparency bug
This doesn't happen to my profile picture but any GIF with transparency will be glitched. If something goes over a transparent part on a GIF it will just stay there. This needs to be fixed.
5. Disable GIFs
As @Sheep_maker said, GIFs could slow down less powerful devices. Scratch should add an option to disable GIFs and replace them with static images.
Thanks for reading!

For 4, I think that's how GIF files are. Just make it so it's not transparent.

Larger gifs would slow down devices like phones or old school computers, especially if they have slow internet.

It doesn't, trust me. It's definitely a bug with Scratch. As I said, if it was a limitation with the GIF format, it would not support transparency in the first place. I have seen many transparent GIFS before. E.G sprites of Mario walking. But then all of a sudden on Scratch, they became bugged.I think the GIF puts one frame on top of another. For 4, I think that's how GIF files are. Just make it so it's not transparent. It's not. They are not supposed to, but that's what Scratch does (for some reason).I think the GIF puts one frame on top of another. For 4, I think that's how GIF files are. Just make it so it's not transparent. It's not. Why would GIF support transparency in the first place then?
The Scratch GIF system is so broken I just avoid using it.

Scratch could have an option to disable gifs, too.I don't think it's worth the scratch team making major adjustments to their profile picture system and adding in a button to disable gif profiles just so you can have an animated profile picture.
No support, I don't see the need to have animated profile pictures, therefore I don't see the need to improve the system.

That's like saying “I don't see the need to have the ”move 10 steps“ block, therefore I don't see the need to improve the block”Larger gifs would slow down devices like phones or old school computers, especially if they have slow internet.^^^Scratch could have an option to disable gifs, too.I don't think it's worth the scratch team making major adjustments to their profile picture system and adding in a button to disable gif profiles just so you can have an animated profile picture.

Just because you don't use something does NOT mean it cannot be improved, especially if many people use it.

That's like saying “I don't see the need to have the ”move 10 steps“ block, therefore I don't see the need to improve the block”This is a very different situation. Animated profile pictures are laggy on quite a few computers and are a purely aesthetical feature- you have them because they look cool, not because they serve a purpose. Plus, scratch isn't too fond of animated project thumbnails, so I doubt they're a fan of animated profile pictures.

Your profile picture is being stored in Scratch's database two times, actually. If you look at your profile picture on the homepage, you'll see that it animates at the right speed; it's using this image. But on other (not updated) pages on the site, this image is used, which clearly animates slower. Sort of weird! But it means that as the site becomes more updated, more pages will use the correct image, and your profile picture will show up right.

Scratch are not fond of animated project thumbnails because they are an exploit. Profile picture GIFS are intended, and I haven't heard them complain. That's like saying “I don't see the need to have the ”move 10 steps“ block, therefore I don't see the need to improve the block”This is a very different situation. Strange how they do that.

To get over the file limit you can convert your gif to an apng(.png), an animated png
So I've just changed my profile picture to a new animated one. I would like to make some suggestions on the compatibility of profile picture GIFs.

Hey Guys,
I thinks we have to put less MB picture instead 2 MB - 5MB because I am agree with @adsuri.
FORMULA
(less MB picture = Smoothly)

If ( more MB picture = Lagging, hanging like Samsung)
