Image compression.

We all probably know that when you import bitmap images into Scratch, they're compressed to fit onto the stage.
So I ask the question:
WHY IS IT SO BAD!?
Seriously, I imported an image that is the same size as the stage (480 x 360), and it got really discoloured and weirdly compressed. Or, when I download a costume and put it into the offline editor, all of a sudden it's twice the size.
Why is the compression so bad? Why can't it be fixed?

Hoo…
Sorry about that rant.

And all the world over, each nation's the same,
They've simply no notion of playing the game.
They argue with umpires, they cheer when they've won,
And they practice beforehand, which ruins the fun!

I think this is more of a question than a suggestion.

I can't say how bad the compression is because I just draw everything myself. But I've never had any problems with discoloring or anything.

I guess that works, but I made a thumbnail where I drew stuff in separate sprites, then I took a screenshot to make it all into one image. When I uploaded it to Scratch, most of the colours were weird. And also, it wasn't the screenshot, the colours in that were still fine.

Also, I guess my suggestion is “make the image compression not horrible”.

You could try inserting the image into the SB2 as a .png named with a #.

All you do is convert the sb2 to a .zip and then unzip.

What do you mean? I don't understand.

download the file, rename the resulting SB2 file to a .zip file, and then open the .zip and add your image as a PNG named with a number.

then do the whole thing in reverse, leaving the image in there.

most of the image compression is that it converts to png, so if you do the method above you need to convert your image to png
