Mandela Effects

For anyone who doesn't know what this is, the Mandela Effect is when a large group of people have the same misconception about a certain detail. The name “Mandela Effect” originated from the event where several people recalled seeing or hearing about Nelson Mandela dying in jail many years before he was released and would eventually become the president of South Africa (he passed away in 2015). Some famous Mandela Effects are the misconception that the “Berenstain Bears” was spelled "Berenstein“ instead of ”Berenstain“, the misconception of the phrase ”Magic Mirror on the Wall“ (people thought it was ”Mirror Mirror on the Wall“), and the misconception of the phrase ”No, I am your father“ (people thought it was ”Luke, I am your father"). I brought up those three examples because I actually shared the same misconceptions for those examples with several others for a long time!

What Mandela Effect examples did you fall for?

I swore caramel M&M's existed before a few months ago

Also once in the newspaper I swear I was put in as “the kid without glasses”, and I was spreading it around my entire robotics team and we were laughing about it, and then I saw it one year later…

I was actually put in as “kid in the blue shirt”…

why

It's real, but not until recently, I thought it existed years ago but they didn't until April last year

I remember seeing a Wii Version of Sonic Generations at Toys-R-Us. No such Wii version exists.

That isn't a Mandela Effect, that's just another way to say the saying.

That reminds me of one time when I was younger when I went to an EB Games and saw a Wii port of Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts. That got me really excited, but when I went back to get it, it was only on Xbox 360. I only learned about Microsoft acquiring Rare later on.

Another one that's more recent has to do with a band called The Assembly. It was a musical project from 1983 and the plan was that each single they'd release would have a different lead singer. They put out one, Never Never, which got to number four on the UK charts and stayed on it for ten weeks. Even though it was this popular, Vince Clarke, the head guy behind the project, chose not to make any more Assembly singles and formed Erasure a couple of years later.
This was weird reading it this way because I thought for the longest time that The Assembly did release another single. From what I remembered, this single didn't end up charting at all and that's why Vince chose to stop the project. When I checked the Wikipedia article that I originally got this from, it turned out I was wrong.
(I'm pretty sure that both of these can be attributed to me misreading the details on the boxart and article respectively, but I still like the idea of these popping through from alternate realities.)

Just to clear it up, a Mandela effect is not when you, as a singular person, remember something correctly. It's when a group of people remember something incorrectly. One I fell for is the “Luke, I am your father.”

Here’s a couple of questions which demonstrate the Mandela effect (increasing in tricky-ness). No internet allowed!

1. Does the cereal brand “Cookie Crisp” have a wolf or a tiger as its mascot?
2. How many hairs does Homer Simpson have on the top of his head: two or four?
3. Is there a “bird” type or “flying” type in Pokémon?
4. Which candy bar exists: Babe Ruth or Baby Ruth?
5. What color is Pluto’s collar: Green or red?
6. What name is currently given to the squid-like enemies present in the Mario games: Bloops or Bloopers?
7. Is a quadratic polynomial of degree: two or four?

For 4, it is actually Baby Ruth. Nice job anyways.

You all did decently. I was also supposed to include a Spongebob mandela effect question in there, but oh well.

The answers:

1. Wolf
2. Two
3. Flying
4. Baby Ruth
5. Green (this one's debatable, as there are in fact some moments where he is seen wearing a red collar. Most official artwork sees him as having a green one instead, so that's the answer I'm looking for.)
6. Bloopers
7. Two. A quartic polynomial is one which has a degree of four.
