The Official Ukulele Topic

Hello! Welcome to the Ukulele Topic! Here are some guidelines for this forum:

1. If you play the ukulele, welcome! If you want to learn how to play the ukulele, welcome! If you don't play or don't have an interest in the ukulele, this probably isn't the forum for you.

2. If you would like to post a link to song chords, please try to find it on https://www.ultimate-guitar.com Not only is this website easy to use and has every song imaginable, but it's one that I know is safe for scratchers. (Note for Scratch Team: Yes, this website does have songs that are inappropriate for children on it, but it is 100% their choice to search out those songs and is completely out of my control)

3. Make sure the song is Scratch-Appropriate. If the song is a popular song but has some inappropriate language in it, please put "WARNING: CONTAINS SOME INAPPROPRIATE LANGUAGE" in big bold letters before the link in your post.

4. Unsure about whether a lyric is inappropriate or not? Search the song on https://genius.com and click the lyric. This website will give you the meaning to any lyric of just about any song. (Note for Scratch Team: Yes, this website does have songs that are inappropriate for children on it, but it is 100% their choice to search out those songs and is completely out of my control)

5. This one should go without saying, but be respectful. If someone doesn't understand something, don't be mean, explain it to them.

6. If you spam I will hunt you down

Have fun and keep playing!

Stop

For the past forever I have heard the same 4 notes being played in the same pattern faster and faster just like my heart rate as I panic because the sweet release of silence is all I wish for

why do you do this to me, sis, why

Ahhh this is amazing! I just got my second ukulele which is a Alvarez concert on the weekend

Note that ukutabs actually filters out the really bad swear words, as you can see with https://ukutabs.com/d/dodie-clark/sick-of-losing-soulmates/ (but the word that means the opposite of heavean is not censored), AND gives you the chord shapes when you scroll down so it's definitely easier for me

Does anyone have advice on the E chord? I'm still a kid with little fingers and struggling with it I've been using a capo to get around that.

edit: Sorry if I use way too many emojis. That's me

oooh I've heard that uke is good

I'm actually not a fan of uketabs because they don't allow strumming patterns. Also, the songs I've tried to learn off that site usually are the wrong chords.

As for playing an E, well, I haven't quite figured that out yet. I play an Em instead.

i literally just bought a ukulele four days ago what the heck-

i’m hoping it will make do until i can buy an electric guitar. maybe help me get used to playing guitar-like instruments, idk. but also i have a lot of ideas for songs to write so hopefully having a ukulele will help some of these ideas actually become more than passing thoughts.

have no idea where i’m gonna learn how to play this thing though lol

That's awesome!

I learned how to play my uke from watching youtube videos and reading strumming tutorials off uketabs.com though I prefer to get the song chords off of ultimateguitar.com

Just FYI, the electric guitar is really hard. When going from uke to guitar you get what is called “Uke Fingers” where you feel like your hands aren't big enough. When going from guitar to uke, you can sometimes get what is called “Bass Fingers” (Essentially where you feel like your fingers are too big)

They do make what's called Electro/Acoustic Ukuleles though if you want to consider that (I found one here: https://www.staggmusic.com/en/products/view/UC80SE )

I play on and off, I've never really progressed (in my opinion) from what I learned in basic music class years ago. Some people can argue I have since I practice every week.

Also my best friend has extreme social anxiety and we had to do a project where we had to sing in front of the whole class, and I had no problem with it but they did so I just played a few random chords while they were singing

I got my ukulele around August 1st 2017 (my school provided them in basic music classes) since I saved my birthday money I got on July 27th. It's dark purple, almost black, and it has a light blue case.

A good thing about having one is that I can use it to tune my flute and I can tune it with my flute
