The Scratch video recording needs to be improved

When you click File in the Scratch editor you can record a video of your project. However, it has quite a few significant drawbacks:

It can only record up to 60 seconds

It records in an obscure file format (.flv) that can't be opened by default using a normal video player on a PC

The recording lags the project severely

All of these make this recorder very unfavourable to use - it would be great if the time limit could be extended, it could record in .mp4 and for the lag to be reduced.

Yeah who want to use some recorder where after you record it you have to convert it so you can watch it!!!

I feel like it's easy enough to just use a separate recording software: QuickTime comes built in on Mac and Windows probably has one as well.
But there are problems with recording software as well (e.g. need Soundflower to record system sound on Mac etc) so semi-support.

And all the world over, each nation's the same,
They've simply no notion of playing the game.
They argue with umpires, they cheer when they've won,
And they practice beforehand, which ruins the fun!

There are many other pieces of software, such as OBS Studio (free) or the inbuilt screen recorder that comes bundled with Windows 10. Both are fairly lightweight and are good alternatives.
