My PC had a Core2Quad and 3GB of ram and still had issues with Vista…

But yeah, the fact about banks and atms using XP still is why I think they should have waited for DDR4, the new Intel generation and Windows 9. Give the people a robust foundation to last another ten years on.

Instead of using WIndows, get some form of Linux. Preferably a distro based on Ubuntu. The one I using right now on a duel boot configuration with WIndows 7 is Xubuntu, which is pretty lightweight.

The main advantages of Linux is that there aren't as many viruses targeted against Linux, and it has it's own makeshift anti-virus.
But a big trade-off is that you can't run Windows programs (.exe) on it natively. You need to use Wine, which can run them on a virtual desktop. It runs most Windows programs fine, but in some cases you'll get a program that won't work as well or just becomes a glitchy mess.

Linux is nice, but for most people switching entirely is out of the question. Remember, it is easy to run in Virtualbox if you have a powerful computer, which will run a window of linux inside your Windows or OSX, and it isn't too hard to install it as a Dual-Boot, meaning when you restart your computer it will ask you to choose Linux or Windows. Be careful, though, as if you select the wrong option it may delete your Windows partition. This is not a bug, it is what you (accidentally) told it to do. If you follow a guide and be careful your PC will be fine.

Wine tends to work fine with standalone applications - ones with just the .exe file.
Ones that require installation may not work well (or at all).

Thats my experience with it.

Are photoshops OK?

(It's in JPG format because it gets oddly stretched when it's a PNG.)
