if you know it's a joke then i'd love to hear your explanation as to why your username is different than the one attached to the first post
secretly an alt account to the op probably
maybe but the voice (not vocally, in a writing context) in the original post is drastically different than theirs. you'd think if it was a joke it would at least sound like it

I literally don't have a clue what you're talking about, you think I'm actually him?? It doesn't take a lot of critical thinking to see what the true intent of this topic was, take it from me

Anyways this should get closed because this topic is a complete joke and even if it was serious, it would never be implemented.

It takes some skill to weed out the fakes and the reals, if this is indeed real it's perhaps the most ridiculous suggestion I've ever seen lol.

First of all, being Scratch Team is a paid job. It is unlikely that MIT would allow the community to elect the people they pay.

Now, let's take a look at social contract.

In countries, the social contract is that the people have agreed to give up certain rights in order to protect their remaining rights. This means that the people will allow the government to limit certain rights (like the freedom to steal, which is illegal everywhere) in return for protection of their remaining rights (correspondingly, like the right to property). If the people disapprove of the rights that the government is trying to limit, they can overthrow the current rulers and get better ones that do not limit those rights, for example in a democracy by electing new people.
On websites, however, the social contract is that the people can either agree to give up certain rights or find a better site. This is because there is no technical means of letting the people overthrow the site administrators. Instead, the people's way of punishing site administrators is to reduce traffic to the site, thereby depopularizing it and slowly causing losses for the administrators. If people on Scratch do not like the current policies, they can either “just deal with it” and keep on using Scratch under those policies or leave the site altogether and recommend against it to people they know.

I hope this clears up how a social contract works and what kinds apply where. Democratizing Scratch simply won't work - the social contract on websites is different from the social countries with governments.

Please don't blockspam.
Also, how can you guarantee that this topic is a joke?

It really does seem like a joke, I am pretty confident that this is a joke, but I'm not 100% positive.

An interesting suggestion! While we value input from the Scratch Community, it is still our website and, as far as I know, the MIT Media Lab intends to maintain creative control of the Scratch site. You are welcome to make your own website and run it any way you want. You can even run Scratch on it - version 1.4 is open source.
