Democratize Scratch!

Seems too overly complex, especially for a website designed for eight to sixteen-year-olds.

As long as inappropriate content is removed from the site I honestly don't see why there's any reason to change the current system aside from making it more efficient, and if you do want to share your side of the story, the Contact Us is readily available at the bottom of every page. There's really no reason for this.

The elected representatives here are the projects. You can click ❤ to propel a project to the front page. You can remix. You can suggest candidate projects in the forums. Or curate the projects in a studio.

If that's not enough, you can discuss suggestions for Scratch in the forums. Or code contributions to Scratch on Github.

Being on the ST is a paid job, that is applied for. Having millions of 8 year olds decide if I get a job is not something I would want if I worked on the ST.

Not really, because Scratch isn't the ‘real’ or ‘free’ world. Like I said above, most of the Scratchers are probably 8 or 9, and letting them ‘elect’ the ‘leaders’ would not be a good idea.

Democratizing Scratch will change it drastically, but for the better.
Take, for example, a flame war. Under the current system, an offended user reports the conversation, and the Scratch team removes the offender. But is the offender allowed to give their version of events? This kind of partiality against the defendant is a key problem with totalitarian authorities.

Actually, they can submit an appeal (by clicking ‘Contact Us’ that has their version of the events that may or may not have caused them to be banned.

However, we have to make it so you can't make other accounts and vote with them. Also, we can't make it so you will tell someone there password or info about the other candidate. We don't want corruption!!!
