Why is there no dislike button?

There's a ‘love’, ‘favourite’ and ‘report’ button under every project; but there isn't a ‘dislike’ or ‘critique’ button. This makes it extremely hard to show that you don't like the project and you can sometimes get banned if you leave a ‘'’'mean'''' comment.
I know that some people are more sensitive than others but a ‘dislike’ button could help them grow a thicker skin. Some people are also too scared to leave a critique in the comment section because they don't want to receive a bad reputation. The ‘dislike’ button will be anonymous just like the ‘love’ and ‘favourite’ buttons, so people won't have to worry about getting a bad rep.
The ‘dislike’ button can also help new scratchers improve and create better projects.
If a project has a lot of dislikes the st could get notified and see what exactly was wrong with the project. Like a scam would get a lot of dislikes so the st would know something was up.

The love and favourite buttons are not anonymous- someone in their messages will see “Username loved Platofrmer” or something like that. It hurts when you spend hours on a game and soo many people could dislike it.

I think the best thing to do is leave a constructive comment that can actually benefit the project. The dislike button just gives it a bad reputation

Why is there no dislike button?

I don't see a dislike button doing anything but discouraging people. The ST doesn't have time to tell people what they need to do to improve upon in their project. In fact they hardly have time to even tell people why they get alerts. But yet again there isn't a very clear line between rude and okay as I have seen someone get an alert for asking a question before…

Despite the dislike button being an act of bullying and discouraging, users can still bully by commenting on the project…

I honestly find that easier to manage reporting other users and such…

I've talked to Paddle2See and he's said it's something they'd never add.
It's basically an option that would do so much more harm than good. I mean, do you even know why I don't make anything on YouTube? The dislike option is why.
There are some people on here who have problems with self-esteem and/or insecurity as well, and a dislike option could lead to that becoming worse.

Instead of a dislike button, you should just criticize them in the comments. Just say what's not the best and how to improve it. Just don't say things like “wow this sucks” or anything along those lines, as that's not helping anyone.

Really, the dislike would kind of be like just saying “wow this sucks” as you're not giving any tips to improve. Best to just stick to writing helpful comments.

A dislike button would bring users down. Your best option is to leave a constructive comment, which is providing things that would help make the project better instead of flat-out saying that the project was bad. It is also best to say something that you like about the project too.

Why is there no dislike button?

Imagine if you shared a project that you'd spent weeks working hard on, and received a flurry of dislikes. Even if it was anonymous (and also, loves and favorites are not anonymous), receiving a dislike could be very demoralizing and in extreme cases could lead to a user quitting Scratch.

I think giving constructive criticism in the comments section is enough. There's no need for a dislike button, and it would do more harm than good.

Yep, and if the dislike button wouldn't be anonymous, this could also lead the Scratcher who's project was dislike to attack the user who disliked the project.

It could also lead to “disliking” bots and trolls who just go around disliking every project they see.

36+% of Scratch users are under the age of 13, and most of them probably can't take criticism well, which is likely why they don't allow direct criticism in the form of comments or as a dislike button.

That's an overstatement right there, I've never met someone who takes criticism to heart THAT much

I'd say it more encourages the user to improve

Scratch is designed to be an environment where children can learn to program, with support from the community. Remember, Scratch is for all ages, and someone's dislike or hate can be a demoralising or upsetting experience, especially for younger children. If you feel the project could be improved, politely state what you don't like about the project (be sure to include what you do like!)

4. Rating projects or dislike button
While this would be a nice idea to see how good your project is, it has a major drawback. Often, when a user posts their first project, it is something fairly simple (for example, mine was a modified pong game). If a user posts a simple project to start, and then gets a lot of low ratings because it isn't a very advanced project, then they will want to quit because they will think their code is bad. The dislike button would have a similar effect of discouraging new users and would create an excessively negative environment.

New users may likely create simple projects at first which will receive low ratings. They will then feel bad and want to leave.
If someone receives a dislike, they may want to leave because they'll think their code is bad.
Or something like that…

Why is there no dislike button?

A dislike button would make quite a lot of scratchers feel insecure, and have low self-esteem. A kind, helpful comment would be a better solution, as ‘disliking’ would make the scratcher believe that the disliker ‘hates’ the project.

I agree, also i can think of other similar situation, you have a project with 30 views but not any love or favorite.
