Furries and the Furry Fandom

For that TV Tropes furry scale, I'm either a 1 or 2. Most likely 1.

For your furry scale, defiently a 2.

For some reason, intensely human animals appear disturbing to me.

I SWEAR I'M NOT A FURRY, EVEN THOUGH I LIKE ANIMALS.
Liking animals doesn't make you a furry, liking anthropomorphic animals does. It's okay to be creeped out, I was too at first. You might fall as a 0.5 to a 1 on my FurryNonexistent-O-Meter.

Hehe, whoops, that doesn't exist anymore.
I mean that you might not be a furry, but you don't dislike the community.

On a side note, let's try to not post as many Furry-O-Meter readings and stick more to sharing fursonas, stories, and conversations. Maybe put your reading at the end of the post. ☺

No need! The meter doesn't exist in the first place!

Just try to stay on topic and join constructive conversations.

If you think about it, furries are basically like any other fandom! Seriously, look at the facts.
  • They do lots of art and writing.
  • They create original characters (OC's)
  • They cosplay
  • There's a weird side AND a nice side to the fandom.
  • They get picked on by other fandoms and people who don't have a fandom.

So, if the furry fandom is just like any other fandom, and it's frowned upon to pick on someone's fandom, why should it be any different for furries? If you've been mean to a furry lately, I'd like to ask you: How would you feel if someone said the same things to you about your fandom/fandoms?

Really the only things I don't understand about this fandom are fursuits (because really they don't make any sense), sexualized art (I mean honestly, but really not much of an issue when taking the entire fandom into consideration) and also fursonas (because I don't feel they're necessary?)

All of these except fursonas are part of any other fandom (fursuits = cosplay)

Sexualized art is spurred from the furry fetish and fursonas and the costumes are people who are interested in that stuff

I think it's great that you want to provide a place for Furries to discuss their interests! However, it may be a bit of a stretch for the “Things I'm Reading and Playing” forum section - which was designed for discussions around specific movies / games / books. We can see how this topic goes and see if it leads to productive discussions before making a final decision on it.

One thing that is not sitting well so far with me is the “rating meter” in the first post. It seems very judgmental, spelling out “good” and “bad” levels of involvement with the fandom. It also doesn't seem to be leading to any productive conversation. I would like to see it removed.

“Fursonas” are pretty common-place too in a sense, as people often make self-inserts for specific fandoms.

Ah, my apologies. I have completely replaced the Furry-O-Meter. I may have made it more of a “good/bad-ness” scale instead of an “Animal-ness” scale as I envisioned it to be, oops. I will take your advice and try to make this forum as universal as possible and not as biased or judgemental.

A furry is any animal you want it to be, they just tend to be mammals a larger percent of the time. Your furaona can even be a rockbird if you want, I won't judge.

When I created the topic for the famdom, I put it here because it is as much of a game and an art as it is a community. The fanbace only exists for people to have fun, make things, and make friends being yourself. It is almost the sheer definition of a sandbox game. Minecraft is a perfect metaphor for the fandom; in Minecraft, you can build things, (in the furry fandom, people make art and fursuits,) you can interact with and play with others from around the world in Minecraft servers, (meet and play with furries at the conventions,) you can explore the endlessly large Minecraft world, (you can always find new content in the ever growing community,) and most importantly, you can have fun! I know it isn't actually a game, book, or movie, but there was no other forum which fit the fandom as well as this one. (Sorry if I'm stretching it a little, I'm just very fond of the furry community and a little overprotective over my post, )

Made some edits to the title, so if you're confused, yes this is the same post.

(Sorry I posted 3 times in a row, lol. I'm not usually one to bump, but there haven't been posts for 3 days! Earlier we were sitting at a solid 6-10 posts per day and suddenly we dive-bombed to 0.)

So my fursuit's name is Janet the Hedgehog and it's the best fursona ever. I enjoy other furries as well. I love furries and pigs especially.

You have your own fursuit? Or did you mean to say fursona? Those suits are quite expensive (up to $5,000 US dollars)… I hope you didn't lose your life savings.
