What is Going on?

Many users have been curious for so long about why you can't search in discuss.

If you click on the button that says "Search“ just below the title, ”Discuss Scratch", it is supposed to allow you to search stuff but then the next page says the search gave no results.



This is a problem. Many users want to search topics for any help, if they want to see if an idea that has been recently suggested has already been suggested in the past, and so on. I was also curious about what is going on with the search engine. So, I asked Paddle2See what was going on with the discuss search and why we couldn't use it. This was what he said:



EXPLANATION: The discuss search started to break when an update on Scratch included the Explore page. Since then, the developers didn't know what to do and they focused on other things. To this day, it remains broken.

It is unknown why Scratch Team did not remove the page or prevent page access. One person said that the system did not allow them to remove it, but this has been unconfirmed.

Solution

After you read this, you are probably wondering, “What are you going to do now?” There is, another way to search up topics in the forums. Even though it is awkward to do this every time per Paddle2See, this is the only method we can depend on.

First, go to Google, and type the following below:

After that, don't press enter or click search yet. Type what topics you want to find after that. Let's say for example, finding a way to make a leaderboard:

(I tried to link to the search results but the page acted like the url was unidentified even though I copied the url completely.)

After you do that, you will see topics on the Scratch forums asking how to make leaderboards. Some topics have useful answers. I was able to find solutions to problems that I had.

You can also use this method to search users (use “site:scratch.mit.edu/users”).
