The Scratch Team Should Not Promote Companies
The Scratch Team recently featured the Create your own Google logo studio, which seems to be officially affiliated with Google and CS First. I support promoting computer science, but I don't support promoting companies, whether Apple, Microsoft, Google, Intel, or something totally different. The sole purpose of companies is to profit and all social campaigns ultimately act as advertising or PR (building a brand image). By supporting these campaigns, the Scratch Team is promoting companies to young, impressionable children, making them more susceptible to buying products by the companies.
Should this policy apply to nonprofits, such as Mozilla and the FSF, as well?
EDIT: Oh yeah, Cartoon Network would be included in this as well.

I agree with you, but I guess the ST needs to have other ways of making profit and this is how they are doing it.

I agree with you, but I guess the ST needs to have other ways of making profit and this is how they are doing it.I don't think that the Scratch Team is profiting from Google's CS campaign… (If Google paid the Scratch Team to showcase the studio, the Scratch Team should disclose its finances!)

The Scratch Team Should Not Promote Companies
It seems like the scratch team is accepting less user suggestions. Anyways, the ideal policy would be: Project/Studios should be marked NFE if they contain advertising for specific companies, and their should be NO specific company advertising on the scratch homepage.

They're promoting a coding activity. It has to do with Scratch. It's not like they're just slapping an advert in the website. Also, offtopic, why would google need to be advertised?
It's the most accessed website in the world. They're a multibillion dollar company and would still need to be advertised?

that's not the point, scratch claims to be nonprofit but pastes these promotions for cartoon network and google on the front page, drilling it into impressionable kids' brains.

i mean, they seem pretty capable most of the time but they did just tank the forums and icon-changing servers for like a full day and put up obnoxious banners all over the front page so i'm not too sure at this point

They need to stop promoting Cartoon Network too (as in actual Cartoon Network, not the now-defunct secondary Cartoon Network channel “Cartoon Network Too”
). I thought they stopped working with Scratch. It's a great channel (the UK version, not the US version which is what is being promoted), but they just keep advertising Powerpuff Girls, a show I do not want to watch. They said they wouldn't advertise on this site, but they did. I wonder if this is why they banned advertising extensions, so no-one can make an extension that blocks the Powerpuff Girls thing (the advertisement showed up a day after the ban)

(unknown link removed by dude341)???
Sorry for drilling those kids' brains and promote paid services from Google.inc
I hope you are not having a Gmail account, or do use of Google Chrome browser, Google Maps, G Documents, etc, etc.As long as someone wants to use Google, why can't they?

I hope you are not having a Gmail account, or do use of Google Chrome browser, Google Maps, G Documents, etc, etc. That argument doesn't make sense. Just because Google is a monopoly, it's okay for Scratch to advertise it? If anything, that means that Scratch should *resist* it's influence. I'm very concerned about Google's growing power in particular (see it's association with the US gov on Wikileaks).
For the record, even though I still need a Gmail account for some things and use Google Search at school because DuckDuckGo is blocked, I mainly use Firefox, DuckDuckGo, and ProtonMail.
I would like to add as I doubt you have been following the production of scratch 3.0 but GOOGLE is helping them make itIf you remember, when the Scratch Team announced the partnership, I voiced my concerns about a potentially inappropriate relationship between Scratch and Google and was belittled by the majority of the responders. Now, the Google studio merely vindicates my concerns.

Um, they kind of are collaborating with Google's blocky (or whatever it is called) to make Scratch 3.0…Hmm… maybe not, but why else would they promote Google?I agree with you, but I guess the ST needs to have other ways of making profit and this is how they are doing it.I don't think that the Scratch Team is profiting from Google's CS campaign… (If Google paid the Scratch Team to showcase the studio, the Scratch Team should disclose its finances!)
I agree with you, but I guess the ST needs to have other ways of making profit and this is how they are doing it.I agree, this could totally benefit the future of Scratch.

Agree. I use DuckDuckGo (at home and at school). I would use Firefox but my computer doesn't support it (I use Chromium instead). ProtonMail??? I'll have to check that out.Cut***That argument doesn't make sense. Just because Google is a monopoly, it's okay for Scratch to advertise it? but they just keep advertising Powerpuff Girls, a show I do not want to watch. The “make it fly” part of tips shows the Powderpuff girls, which I think that is what happened when they partnered with Cartoon Network.
