Did the Animated Thumbnails Speed Up? BUG or UPDATE?

I think many of you guys know about the animated thumbnail trick. Before, if we used too much it could lag the computer and was a little slow. But now, I saw an animated project thumbnail and I believe it sped up.
Since studios with animated thumbnails do not lag the way animated thumbnails do or used to do, I am wondering if they fixed it on the thumbnails or not making it not as risky to use. Do you guys think its a bug or an update?

Maybe it happened on the icons too? I saw it on projects.
