Sorry for the necropost, but I really do enjoy the PS2 port, as it feels a bit more fun to me.
Honestly, the Sims 2 is the best Sims game in my opinion.

I PLAY SIMS FREE PLAY TOO! I GOT IT YESTERDAY AND IT'S GOOD!I don't play the Sims 2, but I play Sims Freeplay. It's exactly like the pc games, but for ipad.>Sleep for eight hours real time

On topic, I haven't played 2 in years, but I played the original just last month and it still holds up*.
*with a ton of custom content
