The Life of a Mouse - Partial2Partials - Application form:
My life started out at a pet shop. I was nothing more than a small, pink, eyeless, hairless bean. All I knew was my mother, who nursed me and my siblings every day. I grew as mice do. I played with my siblings as mice do. All was well.

One day, something was off. Change was in the air. I heard the door to the pet store open as a man walked in. “Welcome to Partial's pet store, how can I help you today?” The man didn't even look in the clerk. He walked past the bird aisle, past the fish aisle, past the reptile aisle, right into the rodent aisle in the back of the store. He walked towards my cage. I heard him say, “How much for that one?” I didn't see him because I was hiding in our little plastic igloo. A clerk answered, “Fifteen dollars.” There was a flash of light as the igloo was lifted up. I almost didn't see the man's hand lift me by the paw, which is no way to hold a mouse. “I'll take it home. Here.” The man pressed a ten dollar bill and a five dollar bill into the clerk's hand and walked out the door, with me in his hand. I rode in his old, rickety car to what I assumed was his house. He unlocked the door, walked in, and went up some stairs to a small room. In it was a large blue Tupperware. He tossed me in, along with a plastic water bottle and a bag titled “Mouse food.” None of those were open. The man said, “Well, have fun in your new home.” I was lonely. I was scared. I managed to chew through the mouse food, but when I tried to chew through the water bottle, it spilled all over and I couldn't drink. I had nothing to do but wait. And I waited. And I waited. And I waited.

Finally, I heard the door to my room open. Two children walked in. “So this is the mouse, huh?” One said. He threw a pebble at me. It hit me square in the nose. “C'mon, let's go. This ain't worth our time.” They slowly walked out of the room. Right before the door shut, I decided I had had enough. Summoning all of my strength, I jumped out of my cage and bolted to the door. I was so close that the edge of the door grazed my tail. Neither of the children saw me as I bolted out of the window. I was a street mouse.

Being a street mouse is hard. I spent my days rummaging through trash cans and dumpsters, looking for food. When I found food, it was always half-eaten, rotten, or most likely both. Despite this, it was better than the blue Tupperware and the children. Eventually, I saw a familiar sign. “Partial's Pet Store.” I climbed in through an open window. I walked past the bird aisle, past the fish aisle, past the reptile aisle, into the rodent aisle. I saw my fellow mice. My fellow mice saw me. I grabbed the bars on the side of my cage and pulled to open the door. I climbed in. All was well.

Hired! I'm going to put you down as American grammar. You can find the art we give out with every order here. Please notify me when you have backpacked it so I can unshare it to reduce the risk of non-staff members finding it.
