Updates to Messages Page
Hey everyone,
We wanted to share with you several exciting updates to the "Messages“ page.
We've made a number of changes to the design of the Messages page. You'll notice it's easier to see the complete content of a message, filter messages, and… *drum roll* the page works beautifully on mobile devices. Cool, right?!
But, perhaps the biggest news is what the developers have done behind the scenes. They have completely reimagined how ”social actions" on Scratch are stored in our database. A social action is information about when you share a project, make a comment, love a project, etc. We deal with literally millions of social actions per day, so figuring out a way to store and manage them is no small feat. We're happy to report the developers redesigned the system to perform way, way, way faster!
We hope you like the changes and appreciate all the hard work from the Scratch developers and design team.
As with any update to the website, we expect you may run into a bug or glitch. We kindly ask you report those issues in the Bugs & Glitches forum.
Cheers,
Speak
i hope nobody rants about this like they did about the discuss button. you guys worked 3 hours on this change, and you sure worked hard on this update! though it may take time to getting used to, it will be okay! i am the side account of frances2005.
and i am turtieturtle.
i wanted to add that people shouldn't rant on this, because it was a good thing it was added. are the alerts going to be mixed in with the messages? because i think the alerts should have a different column for that.
a glitch i noticed was that when you went to messages, a notification for messages pops up in the mail icon, but when you click it, there is no new messages.

To live a life of power, you must have faith that what you believe is right, even if others tell you you're wrong. The first thing you must do to live a life of power is to find courage. You must be ready to reach beyond the boundaries of Time itself. And to do that, all you need is the will to take that first step…"

The design and filtering messages are easier but it is harder to go to your old messages. Though this update still made it easier for me to filter my easier.

I don't know, but for the artists of scratch could there be an option to turn on onion layers? Onion layers is when you can see the last frame but lighter, it would probably help the animating community. But–butbutbut… you don't have to do it. It's just a suggestion.

Yeah, but can you turn off studio messages completely? To be honest unless you're the creator of the studio you don't need to see what EVERYBODY is commenting, projects they're putting in, or edits to the description.

Honestly I like the new layout, but on anything but phones, the padding is simply too large. There's also no way to read alerts. Not to mention the new stuff isn't highlighted like before.

Gotta admit, this is a pretty good and neat to add to scratch, but the only problem is that it can be hard to get rid of the new messages circle after looking at your new messages.

Hey everyone!
Just a quick update – we heard your feedback on having some trouble telling the difference between new and old messages in the latest update to the messages page, so we added in something to highlight new messages in light blue. We hope this is helpful, definitely let us know in Bugs & Glitches if you see any issues!

@ST
I'm hearing that the scratch clouddata system has now fully adopted the websockets system and that people no longer need to use ?newcloud in the url to use it anymore. Is this true because that would be an amazing change for all cloud multiplayer games.
