Scratch missions!

I think if missions were added to scratch, it would make an improvement.
Let me explain what I mean by “missions”.

Maybe they could add missions to scratch, where you could make something happen using code.

For example,
________________________________________________________________________________

{Mission 19} Circle, Circle?

Make a ball draw a circle using scratch code. - Medium
________________________________________________

{Mission 4} Feed Pico!!!

Make Pico walk to the cheesy puffs using scratch code. - Easy
________________________________________________

{Mission 8} Color trails

Make a unicorn able to move around the screen and leave a rainbow trail as it moves using scratch code. - Hard
_________________________________________________________________________________

Once a user completes a mission, their followers can see it on their "What's happening?“ page.
or they can see it in their ”What I've been doing" page,
also, they can do missions if they are bored on scratch and have nothing else to do.

Tell me what you think in the comments!!!

I dunno…
This sounds similar to game achievements which are rejected.
Maybe under “Tips” there's a section called “Challenges” which lists some ideas to get people started (without tutorials, I mean)?

I read the rejection note and here what I have to say:

1. I am not talking about programmed games and people can get certain achievements for accomplishing something in the game.

Maybe they could make a new button called “missions” and when you click it, it shows you the list of missions you haven't completed, and when you
click on a mission it brings you to something like an offline scratch editor to work on the mission?

2. It's a lot different than that.

Although arguments could still happen, it doesn't ruin the reason why game achievements were rejected, because it contains coding.
Scratch is not a gaming website. <– why they were rejected

Semi-support, but, uh..
Would it be a sub-section on the “project ideas” page or what..?

The reason why game badges are rejected is because people can brag about what they have.
In this case, you might find situations where people are saying “Hey, I did all 50 missions. How many have you done? Oh, 45? Pfff…”
Ok, bit of an exaggeration, but the point still stands. Yes, it's coding, but it's still similar to game badges.
Also, I don't like the name “missions”, I think “challenges” would work better since it gives off more of a “learning-y” vibe (like most of Scratch).
Or maybe just don't announce mission completion in the activity thing. That might solve it.

It would be a button you could access from the main menu.

(Sorry if that didn't answer your question, I got confused with it.)

That's the only problem with missions…that

Yes I meant what was in bold!!! (In this post of course)

But that's exactly like followers.

I guess, but I think the problem is that followers serve some purpose (people get notified if someone they're following does something), while having achievements doesn't really do much.

No Support. This would be like badges in Scratch, which ST is not going to add. You may, however, search up things to do on Scratch.

Yeah when you think about it is kind of like followers, thanks!

I said in the first post you get notified when somebody you are following, or follows you, completed a mission.
And your followers can see it in their "What's happening“ and your ”What I've been doing" if you completed a mission.

I know: I'm saying that it SHOULDN'T be like that, since that's getting dangerously close to game badges.

Support. I like the idea of fun little coding goals to do on Scratch, however I see 3 problems with this.

1.People bragging. This can be solved by making the missions hidden to view all of them that a Scratcher has obtained, but seeing a few show up on what's happening/ what I'm doing should be alright. People can already brag with other shown stats such as views and followers, bragging about something hidden would be harder to do. Plus it depends on the scratcher, not other scratchers so they can complete them when they want, not hope that other people come along to up their stats.

2.How Scratch would check that you did it. Things can be coded in different ways as some people use change X by () by while others use move () steps. Would you have to share the project? Would you have to click the green flag? What about other sprites and scripts in the project, would they interfere with this? Multiple missions in one project? Would it be possible to have every mission in one project?

3.The ones you typed up seem way to restrictive. What if I want to use a Flying Fire Snail that flys to a cookie with wings instead of Pico walking to cheese puffs? Unless more freedom was added a ton of projects that only have Pico walking to cheese puffs or a unicorn drawing a rainbow trail would occur.

Loves, followers and views could also be used for popularity wars and are probably going to be bragged about more than this but Scratch still has them.

I just thought of another thing. What if someone remixes another project that has all the missions completed on it, would all the missions be completed for them? Are missions disabled on remixed projects? What if a user remixes then changes it and completes a mission?

It's because only like 1% of community thinks of follows, loves, etc, that way. With missions, about 99.9% of the community would go popularity hungry.

1. That fixes the best problem, the only thing is that they can still share how much missions they have done. I think nobody would do that though.

2. When you click on the mission you want to do it brings you to something like an offline 2.0 editor on the website. You cannot have missions all in one project, you would have to keep clicking the missions you would want to do. When you complete a mission, it can detect that you did it correctly from what the coding is doing. (there are multiple ways to complete a mission)

3. There are lots more missions, (35 in total) and some of those other missions could have freedom in them? or they can add this feature to missions where once you complete them, you can do your own version with custom sprites and features.

Missions can't be remixed.

Also they aren't projects shared online.
