What's so wrong with dead memes?Nothing really inherently, but I think by the point that a meme's popularity is dead, it's kind of signalling that the joke has run its course and has become old or too overexposed to be all that fresh and funny anymore. (The ‘overexposed’ is important since a lot of meme-lords disown memes that have become popular outside of the underground.) Granted, that's not to say you can't do funny things with old memes, but you'd probably get some backlash for using something that not a lot of people see as relevant.
I have to say, I was pretty surprised when the Crash ‘Woah!’ video became a meme. I laugh like a hyena at the original video every time, but it didn't seem all that memetic. The things some people did with the green screen proved me wrong though.
