WeDo 2.0 and Scratch

For Windows 10 users, if you upgraded to the Creators Update (or was forced to do so by Microsoft), then WeDo 2.0 extension will no longer work. Scratch Device Manager will display “Connecting…” after you press the green button on your WeDo, but it will fail to connect. I also noticed that in Windows 10, Settings, Bluetooth panel, it is able to be paired with the WeDo device but it also cannot connect. This might be the source of the problem.

Hi, I just bought a new laptop with windows 10, (…and forced to upgrade) but now cant connect wedo 2.0 it behaves exactly as you said
My Son is very disappointed, has anybody found away around this?

WeDo 2.0 and Scratch

For those with a similar problem:
Just found that the work around I used on my old laptop with windows 7 also works on my new windows 10 laptop
If you install http://www.picaxe.com/downloads/s2bot/wins2bot.exe it will still connect to the BLE dongle
Still quite a lot of work around for a 7 year old, i.e.

1] stick in the BLE dongle in our (brandnew ) laptop
2] locate the win2sbot.exe and run it
3] connect with wedo 2.0
4] load scratch and create a project
5] load the wedo 2.0 template (do NOT add the extension blocks)

It would be nice if the MIT team could solve this so it can connect standard to windows 10
Any way happy at least he can use it now

LEGO fixed the Bluetooth issue in the WeDo 2.0 software (see https://education.lego.com/en-us/support/wedo-2). Make sure you have at least version 1.6.18. However, it seems the same problem still exists in the Scratch WeDo 2.0 extension. FYI, I have a Windows 10 machine that was not upgraded to the Creators Update and it works.
My pc is upgraded to the Creators Update and i have this issue.

How can I resolve it without using a BLE dongle? I tried using WeDo 2.0 software and it's working fine but I need to use it with Scratch.

WeDo 2.0 and Scratch

Hi, any updates on this issue?

At our school we have 270+ students that were supposed to be using Lego WeDo 2.0 with Scratch and Windows machines and, as they are new machines, all of them have Creators Update installed

The teachers involved are going to use the official app in order to do the tasks that they had in mind, but they have to change their planification in order to do it.

Any information will be welcome!

Thank you!

Today I got a new PC with Windows 10 and while it starts for the first time it automatically updated Windows 10 to the latest version. Probably because of it, I also encountered the same problem described by stlee987. Is there any solution to resolve this issue?

WeDo 2.0 and Scratch

I'm also experiencing problems with scratch + WeDo 2.0 on my macbook pro. Really weird problems.

First I tried online: the device manager finds the WeDo and connects but keeps disconnecting and reconnecting.
Then I installed the offline version and I was very happy because it worked right away.
As I had also taken new batteries, I wanted to check whether that wasn't the original problem with the online version, so I quit the offline version and tried online again, to no avail.
So I closed the online site and the device manager, and reopened Scratch (which for some reason wanted to re-install some tool - maybe the Adobe thing? - and asked for my admin password). However, when I now tried to add the WeDo extension, nothing happened (I double clicked and it did not appear), so now nothing works anymore. I even tried reinstalling scratch, but that didn't help …

I have downloaded the Scratch Device Manager and it is not working. It never gets to the point of asking me to connect to any device. It just keep on presenting the same screen over and over again: “Open Scratch Click `Add an Extension´ in Scratch”. What is the problem?

It's caused by net::ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED error in JavaScript.

You just have to set up you TCP/IP v.4 DNS address on the network adapter you are using (it's not important using browser or offline editor). Try for example google's DNS 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4 or any DNS address from your ISP.

I can't thank you enough for this comment. The error was driving me crazy.

WeDo 2.0 and Scratch

Dear all
I use the s2bot app to connect 3 hubs of Wedo 2.0. They get connected, but when running the program, sometimes suddenly they all get disconnected.
Do you know how can I solve this issue?
Current and voltage values seem ok
