DISCLAMER: I AM NOT TRYING TO CALL ANYONE A SMART ALECK, PLEASE DONT RAGE AT ME FOR SAYING THIS.
lets say you ask something like this:
you would be annoyed if someone answered like this, right?:
instead of this:
so, my question is, is putting Smart Aleck answers reportable? Just asking.
lets say you ask something like this:
If I say the same comment on J's profile for example, is that spamming?
you would be annoyed if someone answered like this, right?:
That would not be spamming because there is no such thing as a user name J.
instead of this:
Yes, that would count as spamming.
so, my question is, is putting Smart Aleck answers reportable? Just asking.

If they just say something like;
(I tend to be sarcastic sometimes, and still put the statement around the strikethrough tag most of the time or just make it clear it was sarcasm and still try to answer the question or just generally keep my post constructive, and I haven't gotten any alerts from that, so I assume doing that might be okay)
No, that wouldn't be spamming because there's no user named “J”that might be okay, as long as they make it clear they were only being a smart-alec or just being sarcastic generally and still answer the question.
Yes, that'd be spamming.

well, I guess it could be okay, if it was used as a joke

But keep in mind that sarcasm does have two downsides - 1: It might take away from being constructive, and 2:, it might be used in very cruel ways. It's also kinda hard to pick up sarcasm in non-spoken statements..

i don't know the answer
← does that count?
i thought any comment was reportable
a general strategy (1) enjoy the comment, it may be funny, or (2) ignore the comment if it does not add to the conversation
also, a comment may need clarification, a smart aleck response can show this
but i would be sparing about using the report button on “smart” responses unless it is clear the reply is in violation of the community guidelines; that's kind of case by case

What do you think genius? Duh
Honestly though, unless it's really rude, I'd just suggest you ignore it

Everything is reportable.
The question is: Why bother? What do you hope to gain? Will you just be wasting your time? Are you lashing out trying to hurt someone else because your own life is painful?
In general, you should only report things that are truly offensive. Somebody being a smart aleck does not strike the average person as extremely offensive. It might annoy them OR it might make them laugh, but they are not likely to gasp and say, “I can't believe he said that!”

The CG say you should be respectful, honest, friendly and constructive. Sarcasm is the opposite of all of those. So yes, it is reportable, if the person hasn't done something like
…sort of sarcastic sarcasm, if that makes sense?
^
The above post was not sarcastic.
What do you think genius? Duhreal-life example BTW

The CG say you should be respectful, honest, friendly and constructive. Sarcasm is the opposite of all of those.
Actually, the basic definition of sarcasm is saying the opposite of what you really mean. So if you think someone is not creative you say, “You are so creative.”
Most people require sarcasm to have a certain tone of voice so that the other person will know it is sarcasm. Of course, on the internet, tone of voice is almost impossible, so subtle sarcasm is out and it has to be brute force like Aurora Wolf's “genius” example. Her example uses the exaggeration of the opposite to make the point.
Applying it to my “creative” example, you might say, "You are so creative they should have named you Einstein. (or Leonardo da Vinci, or whatever)
My final word: Sarcasm is the opposite of respectful and honest, but it is not the opposite of friendly and constructive. Friends often use sarcasm on each other and it can be constructive to hear it applied to yourself.

Yes, you should flag them. After all, a smart aleck isn't a nice person by definition, and so a smart aleck answer would be automatically a violation of the Community Guidelines.
